Help me understand the excitement for infection.

Intro:
I’ve actually played Halo since CE on the original Xbox. Lots of fun. Halo 5 is a lot of fun. Especially Warzone.

What I am asking the community:
In the past I tried a very few matches of Infection (I think Halo 3). I never got into infection. But I’m interested in getting in and trying out this infection mode coming to Halo 5 that has so many people excited. Give infection another shot. (Another shot, ha).

  1. Could you give me any reasons why Infection is so much fun?
  2. Any tips on playing it?

If nothing else I’m glad everyone is getting a mode they want. Personally I’m extremely excited for Firefight coming to Halo 5. I know it was in ODST, but I really got into that mode during Reach. Played it a lot.

a lot of people love zombies. infection gives them that love.

Playing as a survivor: The thrill of surviving against overwhelming odds with nothing to protect you but your shotgun and that guy who just might shoot you in the back to take your ammo.
Playing as a zombie: Thrill of the hunt, like a predator stalking your prey.

But mostly it’s the customs, a lot of mini-games and other customs are dependent on infection.

Not sure if I’ve said this before or not, but basic Infection is not something to write home about. It’s when customs and community maps/custom gametypes get involved that it starts leaving a lasting impression.

Infection is the pinnacle of custom games. It is the gametype that expand our creativity on creating gamemodes and Forge maps. Game nights on custom games used to be extremely fun because of the variety that the mode gives. To fully understand its entertainment, you should at least do a game night with a party of 16 players.

There’s no feeling more intense than being the last living spartan and knowing that 15 zombies are coming for you. You corner up somewhere and prepare yourself. As you hear the horde coming towards you and the timer ticking down, you look at your ammo reserves. There’s 4 shotgun shells and some pistol bullets. Gotta make it count.

it’s also very good for customs

I’m not a big infection player myself, but the the things that come out it are interesting. I’m not down playing the gameplay, but the mini games and maps made for this game mode are something to see. Especially the maps.

It’s not so much of the game type itself but more of what it brings to customs.

Customs, for the most part. Also; the satisfaction of racking up those massive multikills if you find just the right place to hold out and the enemies charge you nice and slow.

As everyone else has said, customs makes the mode. It’s also fun finding the most creative spot to hide away and wait for the round to end. Everyone used to sit on top of the light-post on Boardwalk in Reach, for example, since zombies couldn’t reach you easily unless they stacked on top of each other or followed the way you came up. Small things like that made Infection fun.

Or that small ledge on the cage that could only be accessed by crouching through a small hole, from there the infected would have to run and jump just for a chance to hit you, and half of them would just fall to their deaths.

Many Custom Games require Infection, and can be very fun, but the overwhelming majority of Slenderman-style Gametypes has more or less turned me off to it. As in, one invincible Flood, and no respawns.

Nothing I have played (halo 3/Reach/Halo 4) has lived up to Zombies in Halo 2 on the map Foundation.

Hitting boxes to barricade the doors was probably the best part.

I’m sure there have been custom maps made that were better, but i have not played them.

Unless they can replicate Foundation, i cant get too excited.

Its fun to kill zombies and be the last one standing

Soooooo many fantastic custom games built with infection. Fat kid, predator, duck hunt. Even more fantastic creative maps built with it. I dont much care for default matchmade games, only the amazing forged maps that’ll come soon after.

Because I mean come on…It’s Infection!

This ^
Couldn’t’ve said it better myself.
Infection led to soooooooooooooooooooo much creativity on custom games and maps.
The thrill of being either predator or prey. Such a great rush.

Well, its the social game mode where you can relaxe the most, if you start as a sparten you can watch slowly how there are more and more enemys you hide yourself and try to get as many kills as possibly and then finally you get overrun

As the infected one you play the hunter, the big bad wolve who comes to blow up some spartens

Well this all stems from Halo 2. Zombies!!! The time when you would get 16 players in a game, everyone talking, and it’d be customs. You remember those days, and THAT is the fun. These days, people want something they can just hop on and play casually, but still have a competitive feel even though its just fun game type, kinda like Grifball, but just different game mode.

Idk why most people like it, but the reason I played so much of it in halo reach is because most of the time you are a human against a full lobby of gold players who only have a sword. This makes for easy killionaires and the possibility to go on very high sprees. My record game on halo reach countdown was 124 points for example.
