Help Me Out - Understanding The Lore

Hey lore guys, I’m new to Halo. I have the Master Chief Collection, nothing else. I’d like to have as clear an understanding of what has happened in Halo so far, but skipping Combat Evolved, because I’ve started and stopped it so many times that I can’t bear to go through it again. In what order should I play Halo on the collection, excluding CA? You can also include any movies or episodes I can watch for free. Include books as well; I plan on getting into those ASAP.

Thanks in advance!

well, in order simply play the games in order, if you have halo 3 ODST that should go in between halo 2 and 3, but of what you’re asking, play the games in order, you could watch halo: Forward onto dawn before playing halo 4, watch nightfall, as to understand what you’ll see in the prologue and epilogue of halo 2 anniversary, the books, i read them all after i played the games, i would recommend playing halo wars and halo reach too, for the books, I read them in the order that they came out, not the cronollogical order, it becomes somewhat easier, since there are some terms you will learn in the first books that are used at later books, I recommend the comics, but that shouldnt be of main importance until you finish the games and the novels, I really dont wanna spoil anything so I’ll leave it here, when you read the books, you may find some inconsistencies or stuff you dont know or remember, for that i recommend to browse waypoint, halopedia, and probably youtube channels, specially the one called Halo canon, the guy is great, he cleared some stuff for me even in the comments in his videos, good luck and have fun, you’ll probably get super hooked up as I did.

Oh, boy… this is going to take LONG.

Just explaining the Greg Bear Trilogy would take a few days,

Your best first source is the book The Fall of Reach

Humanity starts conquering the stars but has not contacted anything alien so far. In their expansion, the Outer Colonies feel like they deserve some incentive from the Inner Colonies and Earth and they do what they do best when they don’t get what they want… Start a rebellion.

To stop this Rebellion, Dr. Halsey decides to do what scientists do best… kidnap a bunch of children aged 6 and turn them into killing, badass machines known as Spartan II. Master Chief is one of them.

After that, they come in contact with an alien coalition of crazy religious aliens, and they do what crazy overly religious groups do best… killing people that offend their beliefs. In this case, humanity, because they think they are an offense to their cool gods, the Forerunners.

Escaping from this Covenant, the Pillar of Autumn, while having Master Chief aboard, jumps into a ‘random’ sector and finds a giant ring structure, Halo.

The Covenant tries to activate it because overly religious groups are not good at logical, paced thinking. Chief discover the ring aint sacred, but a weapon made by the Forerunners to kill the Flood… an ancient parasite. And it does not kill the Flood directly but their FOOD.

And their food is any sentient being in the galaxy.

So Chief blows up the Pillar of Autumn and Halo with it and he goes to Earth to get himself some medals. Meanwhile, the Prophets of the Covenant are a bit pissed of at their General, Thel Vadamee, for not keeping their sacred Halo from going kaboom.
