I’ve been playing Halo since Reach, and I remember that I did ok in that and very well in Halo 4. But now, even after two years, I find myself not improving in skill in Halo 5, most notably in regards to look sensitivity. Since the beta and release, I have never found a comfortable look sensitivity setting. No matter what I try, I always have trouble with properly aiming at enemy players, I panic at the worst moment and I often miss my target just because I turn my control stick slightly when trying to adjust my aim, and I get killed because of that error a lot.
I have other issues to why I’m not able to get better at the game, but for now I would like some help with this problem. Any and all tips would be most appreciated as I would like to stop missing so often.
I love halo and I love playing it, and I want to get better at it. Please help.
It’s just getting familiar with that sensitivity. Wiether it’s 3 or 7. And trying to not panic during gun fights helps a lot too I would think. You could lower the zones for your analong stick via settings in the game. I have mine set both to 0 personally I like that.
I play 5 sensitivity, 2 acceleration. Give it a shot if you feel like it.
Use more long range weapons like the battle rifle or carbine if you freeze up in close combat.
I used to play with 4 or 5 sensitivity in the previous games, but because of the faster paced multiplayer halo 5 has, 4 and 5 sensitivities feel too fast for me. I’ve even tried playing with sensitivity 3 but I still had trouble. I don’t want to go any lower though.
I do try using long range weapons, but I still keep getting killed because of slight adjustments to my aim that make me miss
Does anyone have tips on how not to panic during a gunfights, because apparently I’m not very good at that
Op are you sure your not experiencing the heavy aim/slow movement effect? It honestly sounds like you are. Which means no matter what setting you find it wont help much. If your aim is all over the place or very erratic and your controls/Spartan movement feel sluggish I would bet you are. This is an issue that doesn’t expose it self as lag or anything out of the norm and is very difficult to recognize unless you know how H5 is suppose to perform. Some players have this all the time while others every so often. This is something 343 has an idea what it is and by the sounds of it is working on a fix. If you don’t think this is effecting you set your settings low and work your way up. Good luck!

Don’t look at your shields and ignore the red hit brackets but ONLY if you are in a “panicky” situation (eg close quaters ar spray n pray). If someone is just taking pot shots at you be aware of when to retreat. Basically what i’m trying to say is ignore damage being taken in a single firefight but let your shields regenerate.
As far as your look sensitivity goes, I would just pick one and stick with it. Mine is set at default, whatever that is (3 maybe?). But I think the most important thing is to not change up your sensitivity too much. If you play with a certain sensitivity for long enough then in theory you should start to get used to it. I’m not sure how often you’ve changed your sensitivity, but that would be my main suggestion for that.
As for the panicking, I’m not really sure how to fix that. I know what you mean though. When I have a sniper and someone attacks me at close range I panic and miss every shot, but in any other scenario I’m fine. That issue seems like the harder one to solve.
I am going to suggest what I suggested to the last person… If aim is your problem, give SWAT a try. From there see how your shot feels and calibrate accordingly. Does it feel too fast or too slow? Also, if you have a sensitivity of 7 or higher, I highly recommend that you lower it to at least a 6.
Tip: Set your outer dead zone to 0!
You have to take into consideration that in this halo they have made getting headshots in close range significantly more difficult because they have reduce the area where the bullets will gravitate toward the head on the reticle. It used to be that so long the head was within the reticle and you fired, the shots would gravitate towards the head. Now that is no longer the case, instead it must be the smaller circle found in the reticle of most precision weapons that must be in the head for it to register.
However, since the head is located at the boundary of the hit box, if you have the reticle aimed very high so that the bottom border of the entire reticle is within the head, it will also register as a headshot. This can be negated however if the opponent jumps, so I recommend you do the same: if you can predict that your opponent is trying to land the headshot, jump to buy yourself crucial extra time to counter, you can also change direction in mid air now increasing your chances of survivng. You may also want to consider trying to go for body shots if you are in close quarters. Though it is not as quick in killing it is a lot more efficient unless you can correctly predict your opponents movements.
This is actually why I love how they handled the autos in this game, because getting headshots in close quarters so difficult, it makes using autos at close range much more practical. Of course this also applies to your opponents so be careful.
On the other hand, if you really dislike autos then I recommend playing the HCS playlist. They have a mode where there are no autos and there are only precision/power weapons so it might be a good place to get good practice. Just keep in mind that coordinating with your team is more emphasized in this mode because it is in general much harder to land headshots unless there is a fair amount of distance between you and your target.

I played team swat to practice consistently aiming for headshots under pressure. Especially since there are no shields, it forces you to play cautiously.
