Help me Git Gud

Hey all, I need some tips. I’ve been playing and just keep getting wrecked. I’m a decent player but I think I’m not doing something right. I’ve noticed that with the addition of new heros that everyone builds hero units right of the bat now and I’m okay with that. I just keep getting over run in the early game. I make a large enough army but once that’s destroyed I don’t have enough resources to build up another before the enemy already has their 2nd army at me killing me. Any help please.

What leaders do you have issues against?

All. I just think im starting out poorly. In general what do you start out with

You haven’t given me too much to go on but I’ll do the best I can based on what info you’ve given me. Since it seems like your entire army is getting overrun I would say the best course of action is to retreat the moment you realize your out gunned. Build a turret or 2 back at base and take advantage of your defenses to even the odds. Avoid losing large chunks of your army unless you can decicevly win the engagements. Sorry if I can’t be more specific it would help if you gave a few examples or more details.

It’s hard over texting on a phone haha. Do you play on Xbox? You can add me and we can party up maybe some time and discuss maybe you can evaluate my play

I do play on Xbox but I don’t have a lot of free time to play. If I’m ever free I’ll shoot you an invite to a party and I can see what your doing. By the way if your having trouble facing forge and Serena then it’s probably not your fault since these leaders are OP until the yap yap dlc is released (which should be any day now)

Depends on my leader. If I have a powerful leader (Hunter Captain, Commander Jerome, Warlord) then I go 1 Extractor 3 Harvester and a Armory/War Council. After I build my hero I destroy my War Council and replace it with a Generator/Harvester. It’s the same build with a leader who has a weak hero except I skip the War Council/Armory.

What I do next depends on scouting. If I see that they have a Barracks or Raid Camp I build one of mine own on a mini-base so my economy isn’t compromised. Build counter units and boom to T2

As best as I can explain it, I do supply, power, armory/war council, power, supply. Then I build Marines/grunts to support my hero Until I can upgrade. By the time I upgrade I build whatever fits my leader for example forge I’ll build 2 garages and I’ll build warthogs and sometimes wolverins to help support my hero as well. Then I get attacked and I don’t have enough funds to build turrets or more units. And I just get run through. But I see these other players have army’s at like 7min and I can’t touch them. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Now I feel like an even bigger noob. I just played like 2 hours as forge and suck

Some advice that I always give players is “Dont watch whats happening.” What I mean by this is don’t sit there and watch your army while engaging. Yes it’s good to move them around so you don’t get any powers dropped on you; but you need to constantly be pushing out new troops. The D pad is your friend! Use it to jump from your bases to your army.

As for specific strats; idk depends who you’re good with. If youre really having problems learning the game try playing the tutorials. A good leader to start out as for new guys is Atriox because he has very good powers.

Hope this helps.

We all know you aren’t even good

I’ll be on a little more frequently this week. If you’d like to add me we can do some customs to practice

All the more reasons for that playback feature we’ve been asking for. No playback, no GitGud.

I disagree. Indeed the playback fuction will help you get good but imo the best way to improve yourself in something is by doing it repetitively. Play as much as you can and lose efen if you feel frustrated. Try changing the way you play and focus in what matter. Do research, use some concepts but build your own concept of how you play. That’s why I Always disagree about the ‘meta’. Make your own meta and the way you play. I’m very new in this game but i’m enjoying it so far. Been playing other RTS and moved to this one since i bought and Xbox one.

So, to ‘git good’. play constantly. Go ranked 1v1 and forget what rank you get. You lose 10 today, you can win 20 tomorrow. It’s all about persistance. Use any leader and build your own style around it.

Kyltz.

As shipmaster: Use hit and run attacks, use teleport for your units, and displacement for enemy units. You can cloak your grunts, so grunt rushes can have moderate success.
As Atriox. The only base Banished leader to have a ranged Hero Unit, so make sure you use it if you play as him. Jump pack brutes, are able to drop mines with the first leader power, so keep that in mind if rushing. You can make upgrades cheaper, sop if you like to wait 5-13 mins to build your base up, then Atriox is the best leader for that.
As Decimus. As decimus, you get to play with the defenses and healing abilities for your units, so you basically keep attacking with this one.
As Cutter: Lots of great offensive leader powers for hammering the enemy, as well as drop units.
As Anders. Sentinels. 'Nuff said.
As Isabel. You can make vehicles cheaper, so building an effective army is easier with her.

In general, banished bases rely on shields and cloaking generators for defense, while UNSC bases are meant to great enemy attacks with overwhelming firepower. Siege turrets are very useful when coupled with watchtowers.

Three of the most important tips I can give you:

  1. Make your army diverse if you plan on keeping your units alive, so use nightingales (unsc) and engineers (banished).
  2. Establish multiple bases. Spending resources for a base can be risky if your enemy is on the offensive, but when starting out, it can help you wear them down by spitting out more units than they can afford.
  3. Do NOT, and I mean, do NOT rely on Ultimate units alone. They will get pounded hard if you don’t have backup units to support them.

Build a variety of units. If you don’t scout you might be in for a rude awakening. I always run UNSC so I make sure at the start I always have a few snipers, cyclops and a few wolverines. And obviously as I think you already stated heroes are the way to go. Even a basic spartan with hijack is very helpful. I’m not the greatest either but just keep working on a system that works for you. As stated above by someone always be focused on keep units rolling out even mid battle. I used to forget to do so and it never ended well. if your army gets wiped you got nothing between their remaining army your base. Keep plugging away chief!!

Doing it repetitively without realizing what you’ve been doing wrong won’t get you anywhere. Remember the old Chinese saying: 学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆。

I’m having the same problem to be honest, I’m on a losing streak at the moment. To be honest I think playing with a friend you talk to is key. I was just in a 2v2 as Atriox, and I ended up having to defend my second base against both opponents (Colony and Johnson).

I very nearly beat them but they had me beat with a Hunter Captain and banshees remaining. The whole time I was flaring the fight on my map and my teammate Jerome, who had a full army that included a Condor, just sat there, camera over the fight. Didn’t drop a salvo or anything. I can only presume he didn’t want to leave himself undefended or just purely didn’t want to help.

As for build orders it really depends on the scenario. But most leaders I start with, Supply Pad, Scout Unit, Reactor. Use your scout to collect as many resources as possible and then scout the enemy at around the 5 minute Mark. Use the marines to capture power points, they really do make a difference.

The bit I always forget to do myself are the logistics and global upgrades. I also struggle with keeping the balance of a good economy and a defensive force. So any advice on that would be great xD

I was in a losing streak as well until RKO Star Fox helped, and I realised that my skills seem to follow the Fairly Odd Parents wish rules.
