[Updating with some experts’ tips:] There are a lot of expert players on here, so I’m hoping to have a common area where us improving players can receive tips from you pros on Firefight’s “Defend the x” objectives. It appears that us improving players struggle with both permutations: Defend the Location (e.g. garage), and Defend the Object (e.g. core). Any recommendations are appreciated!
A couple tips from personal experience, updated with some experts’ tips:
> “Defend the Garage” on Escape from ARC: Have 1 teammate camp next to the upstairs Req station and never discharge their weapon in order to stall the enemies’ capture progress (a). I’ve found that oftentimes that Req station is a blind spot for Prometheans–even soldiers that come in through the upstairs window by the big pipes (where people camp in regular Warzone) will often teleport right past the Req station to the larger area under the big hole in the roof. But beware Knights and their greater awareness and incineration cannons (b)–let your teammates know when the camper dies.
> “Defend the Forerunner Core” on Urban: Have at least 2 teammates treat the road in front of the core as a roadkill highway. Continuously sweeping the road with extra armor warthogs or lots of ghosts gets us a disproportionately large reduction in enemies, which reduces the amount of enemy fire reaching the core. But remember that Knights can’t be splattered (c). If someone can afford it, camp the core with a Wraith for splash damage against tight squads of Prometheans warping in (e).
Some general tips, updated with some experts’ tips:
> Spawn lots of ghosts (d): rapid redeployment, can still zoom-splatter on bottom floor of armories.
> For “Defend the X Location”, blocking entryways with warthogs works well against Covies and at least slows down Prometheans (f).
> For outdoor “Defend the Core”, if someone can afford it, banshees and flying vehicles work well and can choose their own line of fire (f).

You pretty much nailed it imho.
“Defend the Garage”: You basically only ever need 1 teammate inside. Hiding or not, as long as someone is able to survive long enough while waiting for reinforcement you’ll be good.

Usually I find Knights sense where you are and shove a full Incineration Cannon over there.
I just hate when the first mission is “defend X” because you have nothing but Magnum/AR to fend off wave after wave of Promethean bullet sponges.
the bosses tend to have a lot more trouble finding you if you are not shooting or hiding. #1 is a good point.
sometimes #2 is hard depending on the vehicle because there is stuff all over the road and because you can’t splatter knights.
Any defend something objectives spawn ghosts, lots and lots of ghosts.

Great! Hope this helps a lot of frustrated players as it seems like there’s a lot of distributed complaints about this specific objective type but no distilled help list for reference.
More people need to read this! lol.
It’d definitely be great to have more players read this. Quick q: If you use Active Camo, will AI enemies sense you or will they be oblivious (like the Marines) until you start shooting? It may be helpful, in case you need someone to sneak up into the Garage when the 1st floor is swarming with Promethians.
run them all over with a ghost, or camp by the Forerunner core with a wraith.
For defending armories, you can block the doors with scout hogs. It works really well against covenant. Promethean soldiers will occasionally teleport through it, but it will keep most of them out, or at least slow them down.
For defending outside objectives like the ones on Urban and ARC, banshees and other flying vehicles seem to work really well.
Not an expert, but I’ve found that prioritizing the soldiers with the splinter turrets helps reduce “what the heck just happened” deaths.
