I only just saw that sneak peek for what I presume is Halo 5 ? regardless I’ve been outta the Halo universe for quite a while now , havent read any of the forerunner books in the series or the ones set after Halo 3 , So my knowledge is below par compared to other people to say the least. I completed Halo 4 but that was last November and watching that sneak peek has confused the heck out of me , What is that thing that came out of the ground for a start and why is chief wandering alone through the dessert? If anyone could fill me in would be much appreciated. Ive also heard of some game coming to mobile devices too but have no idea what its about
A lot of people think that the ship coming out of the ground was a War Sphinx, which is an ancient Forerunner automated war machine. No one knows yet why he’s in the desert, but it probably has something to do with Cortana’s death in Halo 4 (hence him holding up the data chip. Those chips are used to hold AIs).
There is no explanation whatsoever for any of the events in the teaser happening. It is likely the Forerunner thing coming out of the ground is a War Sphinx, which is like a giant forerunner tank/chicken hybrid it would seem.

People are speculating that the machine coming out of the ground is a War Sphinx or a Seeker. Those are ancient Forerunner machines that are capable of leveling continents.
As for why John is wandering through the desert alone in an unknown place right now, nobody knows. He could’ve went rogue to search for Cortana, but right now it’s anybody’s guess.
