Can I get banned for over using custom challenges?

Not to my knowledge, no.
It has happened before but the circumstances were definitely not normal.
I got banned earlier this year when the 5x Grunt bonus first came into play. It was only supposed to be active for one week but continued paying out in custom challenges for a second week - I had no problem during the first week but in the second week the banhammer came a-knocking. Account and console ban!
I took it to The Official Why Did I Get Banned thread and was fortunate enough to get the ban rescinded. I wasn’t the only one affected.
So, normally you won’t get banned. Just be aware that if you think you’re getting credits when you shouldn’t, then the banhammer probably thinks the same way.
wow… Someone got unbanned thats like merging General relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Absolutely astounding. …wait was this 343 or Bungie who unbanned you? Because I know for a fact I was totally innocent when I got banned back in late '10 and bungie wasnt even hearing peoples cases though their methods for “detecting cheating” were obviously flawed beyond all recognition. And if it was 343 that unbanned you they were able to check into it no problem and help you out? I have come to the realization that Bungie was a power drunk tyrant on a lame high horse. They never admitted their bans were unwarranted and bogus either. How arrogant. Maybe 343 just might be running Halo on X-Box live with some measure of accountability. What a concept.

U mad? Bungie gave people the chance to clear their name via their forums. Almost everyone that pledged not guilty was proven guilty by Bungie themselves. If Id guess, you most likely got banned for afking, or disconnectiong your internett so you could earn the same challenghe multiple times. That being ban material is pretty much common sence.

Yes, for once a plea didn’t fall into a black hole!
It would have been 343i that unbanned, but the moderators on Waypoint were actively pushing our case (thanks Litle Moa).
To be fair to Bungie, 343i never felt the need to question the banhammer until this point, which was due to an error in the custom challenge process that they introduced.
