I just bought Halo 2 to finish the trilogy but i cant play it!
every time i load it up i get an error message saying i need to download the game - but i cant because its not on the market place.
I am connected to live, I have and xbox 360 slim 4 gig - with a 250 gig hard drive.
To be more specific, when does the error pop up, when you try to launch it from the dashboard, when the game is loading?
Is it a Halo 2 in-game pop up or a Xbox Guide pop up?
EDIT: Also remember that Halo 2 no longer works on Xbox LIVE as the entire original Xbox LIVE service was shut down back on April 15th, 2010.
Campaign & Custom Games should still work, but playing with others online will not, you should be disconnected from Xbox LIVE automatically when you load up Halo 2.

I know the error he’s talking about. OP, you don’t happen to have the Beta Fall '12 Dashboard do you? MANY of us that do have experienced the Beta Dash breaking Xbox1 games playability from DVD. If it’s Games On Demand they work though. It’ll be fixed when the Final Release comes out if that’s the case.
it pops up as the game is loading as an xbox message not halo 2.
i just want to play campaign to be honest not bothered by multiplayer much.
also i dont understand this beta?

I asked if you are participating in the 360 Fall 2012 Beta Dashboard. I know most of us are unable to play Xbox1 games using it as it’s currently broken in the beta.
> never heard of the bet dashboard so i must not be using it? ‘~’

The 250GB HDD, is it an Official Microsoft HDD? If you format a HDD yourself to use, it won’t work. Reason is because it will lack the Partition2 drive for the Xbox1 Emulator and game support. I’m guessing you don’t have the official HDD and you bought one from eBay. While the drives may be official, they are just flashed and lack the Partition2 that I mentioned, but will work for everything else.
Edit: if you have an actual Fat 360 HDD from another console that you wont use, just take it completely apart and use the HDD from that. It plugs in perfectly into the Slim’s side HDD bay. Then it will work. Be mindful to use something to help support the drive in there, or else it just “floats” in there and can damage a connector if you arent careful.
i got the harddrive off amazon and it came in a slightly damaged but official microsoft box.
there is no error code just a link to Microsoft support.com but that gives me little help.
i just looked up about something called partition 2 and winrar but i’m not sure if its fake as halfway through a download my Norton antivirus software claimed multiple attacks by malware.

Of course it’s not working. Partition 2 isn’t something you can just PUT on the HDD. You got it from Amazon as well. Even if it came in a Microsoft Official case, that DOESN’T make the drive official. It was flashed to work with the 360 as Storage. When it was flashed, it didn’t include your partition2 that you NEED in order to play Original Xbox1 games. Do what I said and take apart a spare 360 HDD that you may have or buy one that works in a 360 and plays Original Xbox1 games. When it does, take apart the drive casing, get the HDD out, and plug it into your Slim’s side-slot.
^^^^^That is your ONLY option if you don’t want to shell out $120+ for an OFFICIAL Microsoft HDD for the Slim.
> well I would prefer tyo add partition 2 to the drive and have found instructions - but if it fail’s i will shell out for another HDD

Why would you do that? Just go to a pawn shop and buy an original 360 HDD that’s used for like $10 or so. Then do the taking apart that way. But id make sure while there to make sure that the drive will indeed play original games and not have you buy another “flashed” HDD. I’d lol.
> You might have a scratched disk. If you say you have an xbox hard drive and the disk then I don’t see any other way it couldn’t work.
Because people like you don’t bother READING the posts that have already been submitted. It’s not as simple as, “I have a hard drive, I have a disc, so it should work.” Emulation doesn’t work that way. Especially if the emulation files AREN’T ON THE HDD HE HAS. WHICH IS WHERE HIS PROBLEM IS AT.

Ok take it easy. I made a mistake. I’m sorry, i should have read the other posts, but theres no need to get your pants in a twist.
official harddrives are 20,60, 120, and 250gb. Though people are “flashing” certain hard drives, (normally from the same make/model of official drives) to work with the xbox because Microsoft decides to sell their official drives way higher. I recommend 60gb up, remember halo 4 will require ~8gbs alone for multiplayer. So that doesnt leave a whole lot of room for anything else on 20gb.
There are no usb ports on a harddrive, unless your are using external hard drive enclosure that has USB.
