Help a noob out

First time playing any Halo game, and I am confused… I am only rank 8, so still a very low level, but why can’t I get any kills? I start shooting somebody way before they shoot me and I’m still the one who gets killed, even though I am aiming spot on.

I am using the bullseye at the moment… I heard it was a good gun? Are there attachments or upgrades or anything I can put on the gun to make it stronger or…? Because this is ridiculous.

I don’t think its my connection because I’ll play capture the flag and they give everyone the same gun (or so i think?) and whatever gun that is, is awesome… I’ll get 15-20 kills a game and will usually come out on top. But then I go and play a different game mode where I have to use my bullseye and i’ll be lucky if i get one kill…?!

How do i get better weapons or upgrade what I have? I can’t play with these…

There is no such thing as a bullseye…

hahaha my bad… I meant Storm Rifle…

Bullseye is from Resistance, getting my games mixed up lol

Try the DMR or AR. They’re some of the better and easier weapons to use. DMR works for long-mid range, Ar works well at close. You can unlock them by buying them with your spartan points that you get every time you level up.

id say use the DMR to start off with. Might get flak for using it, but it gets ya used to the “game flow”. Or just use what ever feels good to you, and fits your style of play.

Try using Firepower to arm yourself with both a precision weapon and a Storm Rifle, that way you get to keep your preferred weapon, but you are still prepared for any long distance battles.

OP, use the DMR. Better Precision, and better control.

Thanks guys, tried both the DMR and AR, DMR was kind of difficult but I got a few more kills with the AR than I normally do with the Storm Rifle.

Still a bit strange though… I can be running behind somebody shooting them the entire time and it’ll literally take an entire clip, then I have to stop shooting to reload and they turn around and kill me within a second or two? Its kind of frustrating. But maybe this is just how Halo is? I’m used to CoD and ps3, just recently switched over

Also a side question… I have this old mic from the original xbox, it fits in the 360 controller and i know it works because I can record my voice in messages and hear it… But when I go onto Halo no mic icon shows up?.. and then I also have these headphones meant for a cell phone that fit in the 360 controller… but the same thing happens, I can record voice messages so I know it works… but no mic icon shows up in the game or in the lobby?

also u can use this if u wish to know

DMR: kills with 5 shots
4 to the any part of the body the 5 one in the head, and 7 if they all are body shots (perfect for Halo new players in the franchise now in Halo 4) have some bloom but is nothing u need to worry.

Battle Rifle: same as the DMR, but DMR is useful at all ranges. but the rate of fire is a little bit more faster, not bloom

Light Rifle: like the DMR again, except if u use the scope, scoped kills with 4 shots, the rate of fire is slower than the DMR and the Battle Rifle, not bloom

Carbine: this kills with 8 shots
7 to body and the 8 one to the head or 12 if all the shots are in the body, but the rate of fire is the faster of all precition loadout weapons, again not bloom.

while u level up, u will unlock more weapons and useful stuff, so keep leveling up, with some practice u are going to fill like in home.

I have the first 5 guns unlocked, but it says there are just 2 more left that are still locked? And i unlock them at rank 22… Are these really the last 2 guns to unlock? Whats the point in ranking to 100+ then if you get everything at such a low level? Or do more show up once I unlock these 2?

Headshots kill a lot quicker, but they can only be pulled off with precision weapons. Automatics can’t do that, but they work better at close range and for suppression.
Also, try to weaken or take out your enemies shields with a grenade then finish them off with your rifle. That usually does the trick.

I don’t know about the mic issue. I would just suggest buying a cheap 360 mic at Gamestop, Target or someplace.

thats all the weapons your are going to unlock for your loadouts

also after this levels you can unlock new armors for your spartan and visor colors

but theres more stuff to unlock after level 50

the specializations: they are in the menu (Press start and in the upper menu the 3rd option) adds different stuff to the support upgrades and the tactical packages, more armors, more visors and weapon skins.

when u reach that level in order to progress farther from 50 u are gonna need to choose 1 and finish 10 levels to access to another one till the level 130

so it got some point in the end

Ah makes sense, but if there are only 7 guns in the entire game why do others kill me so much quicker than I kill them? There guns cant be that much better than mine can they?

Going to head out to wal-mart and pick up a cheap mic hopefully, I’m just wondering if its worth it… I haven’t seen many people use mics on Halo? (Halo is the only game other than World at War that I have for xbox, I have a ton for ps3 but thought i’d take out my old 360 and try it out for once lol)

Plus since I just started playing xbox I had no friends anyways, :’( forever alone lol

I don’t want to upset anyone on here, but Halo 4 isn’t really a game that people talk on. Teamwork isn’t as essential in some gamemodes as it was in the previous games, which means mics aren’t as useful as they used to be. Still, callouts can help your teammates when something random happens, but Halo 4 is still a good game.

There are more things you can purchase with your Spartan points, there’s two types of perks you can use at once(I don’t remember what they’re called). You can unlock them and use them in whatever loadout you want, some give you more ammo, others help you reload faster, etc. There’s also Armor Abilities and grenades to buy.

just ask people to be your friends and add you?

about the guns, Halo for some people bad luck is a little bit more complicated FPS than CoD or other examples.

some things like strafe, jumps, armor abilities, grenades and plenty of tactics makes it a little bit more complicated than any generic FPS out there, so is practice, practice and practice.

on youtube plenty of people have tips about how to play and own all that guys around the world

Halo is really hard to adapt to for new people in my opinion. It takes a lot of skill so you need to just play until you get better.

Its okay, I’ve made atleast 5 friends in Halo 4 alone. Just try to have fun and win.

Probably because your enemy is using the almighty and overpowered DMR. Personally, I stick with my BR, but I suggest a new Halo player like you use a DMR until 343 releases the weaponn balance TU.

How much of the campaign or spartan ops have you played? Halo is definatley a game I wouldn’t recommend jumping straight into matchmaking without playing single player or custom games first.

Also, it looks like you haven’t played much Big Team yet. That might be a better playlist to get used to gameplay in as you have more opertunity to chose your battles IMO.

Dude the reason you feel like you are being crushed is that Halo is a game that takes a long time to adapt to and takes skill. Switching from COD will not be easy, your gonna have to play alot to become good. But thats what makes me love Halo!
