So… I am just really starting in the MP of wars after beating the campaign Legendary gold (yes, it took a while and probably hardest challenge I have faced)… And I suck in terms of strategy especially in the first ten minutes or so. I know how to do things quickly and navigate the menus and everything like that and control units. What I don’t yet understand is how I get beat four out of five times in the first 20> minutes.
Can I get some strategies that y’all and everyone else respectful uses ( I already have warthog rushing down pat). Maybe some general tips about when to do what and stuff like that too. Honestly anything will help.
Also is it considered disrespectful to warthog rush? What if I pull out and don’t end the game that way?

Warthog rushing is part of the game,if ur unsc make Spartans with chain gun then make cannister shell tanks and volley wolverines…that combo takes out alost anything…if ur covenant idk u can go hunters and jackals or banshees and vampires,or hunters and vampires

You want to win? If so then you need to forget everything you know about “honor gaming”.
Playing to win means that you free yourself of any self-imposed restrictions that limit what you allow yourself to do, and not to do. Without actually cheating of course. You do whatever necessary of you, in the rules of the game, in order to come out on top.
Warhog “rushing” hardly ever works. You shouldn’t be focusing on pumping an endless amount of hogs and sending them to the enemy base to die. What you should do is harass. Just build 4 or 5 hogs and take down a pad or two. Then transition into tanks. Somewhere in between there, make sure to get reserves. That’s really all the advice I can give you since I don’t know if you’re referring to 1s 2s or 3s. Also, I hardly ever play UNSC.

Thanks man! But wouldn’t making all that stuff take time? Wouldn’t you want at least a small force initially to at least try to deal with a rush or something?
For example I have been rushed by covenant at around five minutes and even if I had four turrets I still don’t think I could fend them off.

I figured, but I have also heard lots of people shouting at rushers over the headset after a game or something, you know.
But yeah. Thanks man. I want to have epic matches, not be beaten by some covenant rush of a chieftain and his brute buddies wrecking my base at around five minutes and nothing I can do about it except expressly counter with flamers and then he could just take other bases and would be game over for me from there. I want epic battles of all units, you know?
I also would want that to happen without having to rush and make sure they don’t do -Yoink- like what I mentioned above. But if it is the only way so be it. Ill do that with covenant and pull out when leader comes at me then hopefully we can have an epic match or something.

I know the really skilled players have at least one turret that early and if so yeah. Warthog rushing would be ineffective, which is why if I see they do have a turret I divert my hogs somewhere where they won’t die (like an insurrectionist base). Also, with that half the time I attempt to take a base like that the enemy takes it and their forces always beat mine, no matter how many hogs or how upgraded (assuming grenadier max) they are. It’s like the enemy has ESP or some -Yoink-. Am I doing it wrong somehow? Should I wait and let them take the first base then destroy it and be beat them that way?
Also didn’t mention I play anders so focusing on tanks would be inefficient, right? I mean, I do go for hawks basically every game so tanks (at 500 each) and upgrade to canisters would not be very wise right? I usually transition to hornets and if I need to, cobras as well if enemy goes wolverines. Or if covenant wolverines for vampires.

Depending on who you are u could make flamethrowers and marines or tanks without cannister as a precaution just incase someone does rush

But they usually rush faster than can produce those, at least if you have anything else than two reactors and a barracks or depot and all other pads and even then it’s going to take longer with the extra reactor taking up where a pad could be.
I appreciate advice and will try for sure. I’m just not sure about those things from what I have experienced.

1s 2s and 3s stand for 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 respectively. Another note on Warthog harassment is that you should be at their base by 2 mins and 30 seconds. I play 1s, so I don’t know if that’s a good timing in 2s and 3s, but most players don’t have turrets up that early. And I don’t know what you mean by Anders going for tanks being inefficient. It doesn’t matter which leader you are, tanks are easily better than hornets. By the way you phrased it I assume that you don’t know that Grizzlies are pointless. They lose in a fight against Power Turret tanks and the upgrade costs far too much. So no, Anders is not a bad leader to go tanks with.

1s then. And yeah. I have that down well (forgot times but I’m good on that).
I mean you can’t do tanks to counter a covenant rush, much less any other real quick rush. Even if your base was locked then you released them the enemy would have already won by putting you on the defensive, and you would be poor by then too.
Also any insights to playing covenant? I never got into it because who tought me the game said “they are weird”.

Covenant is a lot different than the UNSC. My recommendation would be to watch MarcoStyleNL’s old videos where we plays as the Brute Chieftain. The BC is the best 1v1 Covie leader, the Arbiter is okay, and the PoR is terrible. The big thing is learning the maps. If you have the DLC, Blood River is a pretty wonky map that took me awhile to learn, and Barrens disadvantages the Covie player tremendously. Besides those two, the only weird OG map is Pirth. You have to go temple 1st ever game in order to keep down expansions. Other than that, the main rule of thumb is to go temple 3rd and get citadel as soon as possible then build two halls. Vs other Covenant players, Jackals are your best bet. Vs UNSC players, Hunters are usually the best bet.
I can’t sum it all up in just a paragraph, so I really do recommend MarcoStyle NL- Here’s a playlist of his Halo Wars vids.
If you want to add me, my GT is actually CarsandCameras. I’ll have to find my mic tho

Thanks a lot!! Really appreciate that. I’ll check those out as soon as I can. I’m recording for my gold guide to legendary campeign now. It’s taking for ever, I’m tired and it’s probably going to sound horrible but it’ll be out soon!!
And sure man. After I get some things done and school caught up on I’ll be on more. And your GT is different than what it says here? Weird, lol
Make sure you have a reasonably-sized army at the start to defend your base against anyone rushing. Make sure to scout the enemy base regularly to know what they’re preparing.
I know the advice is very broad, but it’s important to know.
