Help a casual player 'git gud'...

So, I’m a casual Halo player. I’ve put hours and hours into Halo 1-3 but only really delved into campaigns since then. It seems that competitively the game has moved on a lot since I played it last so I’m trying to “git gus”. I’m not bothered about K/D but I want to be able to hold my own much better than I currently do. Here’s what I’ve done to try to “git gud”.

  1. Plugged my wireless controller in to reduce lag.
  2. Dropped my sensitivity to 3 (I was running at 7)
  3. Deadzones are at 0%
  4. Aim accelleration is 3
  5. Switched assassinations off
  6. Maintain speed is on.

Next I’ll be switching to Bumper Jumper (inverted) after 15 year of default (inverted) I think this could be challenging.

I’ve also been watching tutorials on Youtube about strafing and ghandi hopping.

So, any other advice?

Please assume I know the basics and standard tactics and if someone doesn’t reply “git gud” I’ll be sad.

I’d drop aim acceleration to 2 or below, but that’s my preference.

Looks like you’re on the right path. You probably just need to execute your plan for a few thousand games. Then you’ll be good, or at least decent.

turn vibration off, it will take time to get used to but it will make your shots more consistent. Learning how to move around the map is another big thing or when enemy flag. Would twitch streams if you ever have time and watch how they move around the map.

Dude, just do whatever MAKES you better. if you think a 7 sensitivity feels better, stick with it. If you like higher % dead-zones, do it. Its all about what its comfortable for you so that you can play to the best of your ability. Suit everything to your play style strengths and then work on your weaknesses

Thanks guys, I’ve not been using vibration for a while and I’ve been watch Activee on Twitch. As for sensitivity, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my aim and my accuracy overall since dropping it to 3.

I think I will drop my aim accelleration to 2, thanks.

Git gud Droog!

I actually do better with vibration. *wink *wink. And then my controller dies.

biggest thing is learning the maps.

Then win 1v1 battles.

First you need is to’‘git gud’’
Youre doing well at informing yourself, now go and play the hell out of the game, this is the best training you can get.
Warzone assault is a good way to train your aiming/movement skills.

Good luck mate =)

It seems to me that my 1v1 battles are my weakest point. I feel like I perform much better in a team of equal or better skilled players, I enjoy objective based games much more than slayer - CTF is probably my favourite and I love being the flag runner. I’m pretty good with map knowledge, I played Halo 1-3 extensively and a lot of the maps are remakes.

This is a pretty obvious tip but being patient is very important in Halo 5. it’s always better to walk around with your weapon ready to fire, than be sprinting around all the time and starting battles being down a shot. Be patient, don’t sprint unless your sure you have to in order to survive, or make it to a power weapon. If your opponent is unaware of you, take your time, pace your shots and make sure they connect rather than blasting full tilt and missing like a noob. Always watch your radar and crouch with your AR ready to spray enemies coming around corners. Stay on the outside of the maps, pick enemies off from a distance. It’s not that difficult to keep your deaths low if you make a conscience effort to fight long range and pick battle your sure you can win. It’s easy to get stuck in a loop of rushing and trading kills if your not paying attention, and by the end of the game you finish even or negative.

i also put my aim acceleration down to 2 seems perfect for me

1v1 battles are pretty important. I would play a couple hundred FFA matches to work on your CQC skills.

I have found that I tend to use my boost to go forward or backward more often than anything when a lateral boost would be the best option. Also, charge forward through grenades rather than backing away if you can. Throwing a grenade seems to be a last resort for some people when they think they’re going down, so that’s a sign to press forward, AND you’re gonna put more distance between yourself and the splash damage because you’ll have opposing vectors.

Melee’ing is tricky… Having an elevation advantage and setting up a ground pound is simultaneously the most difficult and most satisfying way of getting kills, and it makes you look like a boss. Man cannons and the Spire on Apex 7 are great for practicing this.

But really, the trick is to focus on one aspect of your playstyle that you think is a weakness and make it better. Headshots? Knowing when to walk and when to sprint? Map knowledge? Just work at it.

I’m Onyx/Champion and I play without Vibration. It helps me.

Outside of working on BR skill, bumper jumper, etc.
You need to think about “what would I do in this situation?”
There are so many times I kill people because they are predictable. You need to learn to think ahead and have the better angle on someone.
You also need to learn where on the map you die easily and where you kill enemies easily and quickly.
You also need to learn the best route to take. “If I go this way, it leaves me more open to be sniped, rocketed, etc.”
Also, be “win” focused and not “k/d” focused. If you play 1v1 every game and always have a 1.1 k/d, you win 100% of the time. It frustrates me when I play Team Slayer and someone is mad that I “stole” their kill. It’s our kill… Not just yours.

Excellent advice here.

Learn to use the br, pistol, and dmr. When you shoot, try not to move the right stick around so much because the aim assist stays on their head most of the time

Here’s how to improve your Halo 5 stuff in my book:

  • Play smart, don’t rush into a horde of enemies without some backup. - Don’t use smart link at close range, only medium-long distance. - Help out your teammates if you can. - Play around with your sensitivity settings. Sometimes playing too low/high of a sensitivity can screw you over in the long run. - Map navigation. Knowing the ins/outs of a map can give yourself an advantage. - Find your best weapon. Any weapon you can go crazy with is a weapon you should stick with as much as you can. - Optional: Bring some friends, one should not always go into a game running & gunning alone, and you can never have too much fun alone.

Agreed. I suck, and will attempt to put this into practice.

I consider myself a decent CQC player with weapons like SMG, Shotgun, Sword. It’s ranged where I struggle. I do find that with the majority of player using pistol/BR/DMR I’m forced to do thay as well to compete, expecially in Warzone or BTB. When I’m play FFA or Slayer, I’ll find and use CQC weapons and melee and generally do quite well.
