It’s why we use the DMR and BR in Halo 4 and Guardians, because it’s a hybrid the four other branches so they use shared assets. Only II’s and III’s are still in the Navy Special Forces, but even then they use whatever they want.
I know all that.
But I’m going to again, highlight the part where the UNSC is consolidating forces new and old. Some stuff (like the MA5B for instance) just isn’t used anymore by the Spartans, but IS used by our boys aboard the Spirit of Fire. Not sure how much more clear I can make this point.
Also, the M395 DMR is not Army. That’s UNSC, and Marine operatives used it. The M392 however, as of 2552, was still almost exclusively army. It’s not that we’re a combined arms branch because we’re Spartans.
IT’s that we’re using flat out new stuff- in the entirety of the UNSC itself. The old models are still very much in service, but it’s the old ones. Not the new ones.

So? Keyword some. Not all. If the UNSC’s resources (which at this point is effectively comprised of the Infinity, ten frigates and the SoF, possibly with stragglers), are strained, we’re gonna need to relearn how to use a lot of old stuff as a whole. Shocking as it may sound, some Spartan IVs, somehow, are even fairly freshly enlisted. They don’t know anything but the quote-un-quote, “Latest and Greatest” technology.
It’s time we taught them that a break action grenade launcher always has an application.
