Been a while since i’ve posted here,
I thought it would be neat to have a manually guided rocket for once! I just think back to that one launcher in 007 nightfire. Seems like fun.
Or how about a net launcher that paralyzes the player for 5 seconds. Works indefinitely on small targets like grunts and jackels, but on bigger targets (elites/brutes/spartans) they can escape.
I don’t have specifics, but I can point out maybe my most favorite Heavy Weapon as an example of what I like.
Reach’s Plasma Launcher was a charged, 1-4 shot, heat-seeking plasma grenade launcher. The duration of the charge dictated the number of shots, and you needed to track your target long enough for the heat-seeking to activate.
What we got was powerful but not overpowered weapon. It could devastate infantry with one shot or a Wraith with 4 shots. The projectiles were relatively slow, so you really needed to think your shots through. Anyone seeing them incoming could simply use terrain to block the shot.
This is what I want in heavy weapons. They should take thought and skill to use. The point-and-shoot heavy weapons (Rocket Launcher/Plasma Cannon/Incineration Cannon/Concussion Rifle/etc) are simply too plentiful and easy to use. Let’s make Heavy Weapons a challenging and rewarding experience again!
