Heavy Vehicle Buff Needed

Heavy Vehicles have it rough in H5. Players are so mobile now that boarding them is very easy. So I think they need a buff. A small one, but an important one none the less. The Mantis needs a little more buffing than the Tank and Wraith, but they all could be a little more useful than they are now.

General Changes

  • I propose that Grenade planting a vehicle no longer takes out 100% of a vehicle’s health. Why? Because it is way too easy to plant the Grendaes on Heavy Vehicles. What I’m suggesting here is that the grenade plant do somewhere between 60 - 80% of a vehicle’s health. That way, If the tank/wraith/Mantis is already damaged, the nade might finish it off. But if it gets easily boarded right out of the gates. It won’t just die immediately and it’ll actually have a fighting chance. Trust me, this mechanic change would not make the heavies OP in any way. a second teammate could just hop on after you and do a second grenade plant to finish it off.

Mantis Specific

  • The Mantis needs help. Badly. Its chaingun overheats fast and the spread starts good but gets really bad as you fire it more. The Mantis gun is far overshadowed by the Warthog Chaingun and the Detachable Turret. It needs a buff in some way shape or form. And the Mantis being boardable from the front makes it a joke. The Mantis stomp can’t help at all when people just hop over it and board you from the front.

Totally agree, especially with the mantis. It’s gone from the big powerful killing machine in halo 4 to basically just a giant metal suit of armour that can’t kill anything in halo 5.

you know there are certain vehicles that can withstand a grenade right? Such as the corp scorpion or the oni one where you need to jump on the front of it. Besides vehicles an splatter people just by touching them which I find extremely stupid…

The Mantis NEEDS a BIG!!! HP buff i went too go take out a ghost pat. and when i left i was already on fire, and i got 2 of my friends too take out a mantis and us 3 just unloaded on it with dmr’s NO ONE ELSE WAS AROUND and it fell in seconds. With the wrath i find it is ok maby just a small HP buff could be used because it is very easy too splatter someone coming at you. with the tank bring back the ability too shoot a wall right next too you too take off the border, and let us bored the tank easier. so many times i go to bored and i get in the gun i get out and get in the gun again.

The Mantis for sure anything that requires level 7 req needs to last at least more than one 1v1 fight with a Spartan on the ground. I think just a radar radius buff would help tremendously on all vehicles.

Well, they often are quite the opposite of killing machines right now. You get kills far easier out of a Mantis than in one. Which is just plain wrong.

Agreed. The fact that players can just spawn vehicles on command (warzone) is enough in itself.

Oh yeah. Forgot about a radar buff. That would help for the tank and wraith a lot. But for the Mantis… Well, it would need those other buffs to actually be able to stop the spartan running towards it since the stomp and chaingun are so underwhelming.

Their balanced you guys just aren’t very good.

I like it how it is. If you see one you probably need to run away or you are going to be killed. If you have backup you might be able to approach one. But then, you really shouldn’t leave a heavy vehicle without escort - with a small team around them they are so much more deadly.

I think that the one grenade kill is fine, but it needs to be tuned. I was thinking a couple things:

  1. In order to plant a grenade, you first need to remove the operator’s hatch by beating it down.

  2. Instead of using grenades, we have to plant some sort of anti vehicle bomb (whatever you want to call it) that takes a couple seconds to arm.

I also think they should bring back the ability to kill people off of your tank or wraith with splash damage. I could’ve avoided so many deaths. ):

And yes, the mantis needs a HUGE armor buff.

Scorpion: It needs to be able to drive in one direction and aim its cannon in another direction. Right now, trying to do this will result in the treads trying to line up with your turret, which makes driving it pretty awkward and also makes it harder to avoid boarders.

Wraith: I think it’s actually fine for the most part. The plasma cannon turret for the gunner seat seems a little bit underwhelming, though?

Mantis: Needs more health first and foremost. Maybe a nudge more damage on the minigun. The stomp also seems kinda mediocre.

I think the wraith’s main gun needs more splash damage.

Everything you said about the mantis I agree with.

Reduce boarding radius (by a tiny bit). Increase time it takes to plant the grenade so team mates have a chance to save your vehicle. Increase weight of warthog and mongoose (by a tiny bit).

I can agree with that. The mantis needs more powerful gun. It’s really weak compared to how it was in H4

Mongoose/Gungoose/Warthog- Some traction would be nice. These vehicles should have some weight to them & not slide around so easily.

Scout Hog- Traction & more armor. If it’s purpose is to scout out a location without having a turret, then it needs extra armor to justify using it vice something else.

Wraith- Mortar attack needs more splash, while passenger turret needs to do a little more damage. Right now it’s just an annoyance or a free kill.

Scorpion- Should be able to drive in one direction while firing in another, as was done previously.

Mantis- Armor buff, turret damage increase as well. As it is right now I only use a Mantis because I am working on the commendation & once I have it I’ll be selling off my REQ cards. If it’s a 7, then it should be comparable to other 7’s.

Grenades- Grenades should not kill any vehicle they are able to be planted on in one hit. A Scorpion tank can take a full hit from a Wraith mortar but a single frag is it’s Achille’s heel!??! You’re better than that, 343.

I agree with the Mantis had full shields one Scorpion shot and it went BOOM.
