What is wrong with this games aiming? I mean sometimes i land headshots like a pro and then sometimes aiming goes weird and i can’t aim at all. Is the heavy aim still present or what is this? Every single other game i have including Battlefield 1 and COD WW2 i can aim smooth like a butter and actually have some fun playing. Am i the only one with this problem? I live in Finland so maybe the connection is bad or something. I need some advice or i am done with this game for good.
I think connection has a lot to do with it. I play mostly warzone and there have been many times when I play a game and can’t manage to get 10 kills then face the same people next game and get 30-40 kills. Nothing changed but probable the server I connected to. For me the warzone servers have felt pretty bad the last few weeks. I’m landing way more head shots in the new ffa playlist then warzone right now.

Yeah, it’s probably a connection issue. Aiming is different in every server i am on, it’s so frustrating. I really like this game but these problems are driving me away from it.
There was a heavy aim update a long time ago ( I can’t remember exactly when ) but the last I saw specifically related to heavy aim , they didn’t fully understand the issue or how to resolve it entirely. For me personally heavy aim was horrendous. I now get it pretty bad from time to time but like the other guys are saying servers seem to affect aiming more than anything nowadays. Get a good server and the aim , movement and overall responsive nature is awesome but a mediocre server I get beaten by average players even when outplaying them completely and a bad server . I simply have to quit because it is unplayable. Unfortunately this has never been addressed in any way shape or form and to me it quite often feels like the problems of MCC have transferred over to H5 .
Number one cause… LAGGGG!!!

Actually no . Heavy aim was a separate issue . That’s why lag is called lag and not heavy aim , and heavy aim is referred to as heavy aim because it’s a separate issue .

I’m well aware of that…

That’s probably true. I mean i have never been able to get in any match in MCC, ever. It might be because i live in Finland so the nearest server is pretty far away. But then again why don’t i have any problems with other mp games? These aiming problems makes competetive playing in Halo 5 impossible for me. I get beaten by players below 50 lvl and with minus KD too. And the worst part is that i am letting my team down because all i can do is run and aim like a drunk spartan lol. Though sometimes i get in a good server and can play just fine with good aim, it’s so random.
Heavy aim is still here and is real… This issue right here is what has driven away many players imo… Most players don’t recognize it or know how to describe it. Because in reality it doesn’t show itself as lag but more of a suttle slowing effect that sets into the game. It not only effects aim but it also effects movement and just about everything one does in a game. Some playlists its revealed more then others. I see this take place in just about every game I play. Whether its happening to me or someone else. Many players have expressed that many games they play always turn out to be a sweaty game. Well I would almost bet the reasoning behind that is they were have this slowing effect set in on them and didn’t even know it. This really does effect the game in so many ways its shocking. Aim really shouldn’t be tied to connection. The only thing that should be noticed by ones connection is hit registration. Ive dug into this so much that the only plausible thing I can come up with is this… Its a rendering issue. This would explain why a person can have one game play totally fine and the very next game plays very off. Its seems that when we are all in a game the game doesn’t render the same framerates to all players. Or if it does render the same framerate to all players that rendering gets corrupted during the game. I’m sure 343 has a good idea what it causing this. But it cant be fixed. Its likely something so severe it would take a lot of time and reworking of Halo5 which I’m sure they feel would not be worth it. This issue has shown up in some tournaments. And when it does they have had to power everything off and do a full reset. One thing I found very interesting was when Optic gaming had this happen. They brought it to the attention of the staff and the staff did a full reset. One thing the staff monitors is framerate. And I would bet if they see that take a dip that’s when they step in and do this full reset. Its a shame really because if this game wouldn’t have this issue it would really be a heck of a fun game to play… And I feel we would have a much stronger player base then what we have today… So is there much one can do about this issue. Not really… Sometimes when it gets really bad I do a hard reset start to my xbox and drain the power completely from it and let it set for 30mins. It helps and works for a bit but only for a short time… My only concern now is I sure hope this doesn’t linger over to Halo6. That would be painfully horrible…

Thanks for advice about the hard reset! And yeah the problem has to be deep with in the game’s coding because 343 can’t seem to figure it out.

Every single thing you said here is spot on . I’m actually grateful that someone has grasped the issue I’ve had sooo many discussions about heavy aim on here and all you get is people like baddog55 " it’s lag " . They don’t have the mental ability to understand anything at all . The first year and a half was ruined by heavy aim for me . But because it’s halo I persevered. I don’t have the fight in me to do that again if halo 6 has it like halo 5 had it I’m done and I’ve been playing since CE it’s such a shame . Your right halo 5 can be pretty good when working correctly. Again for me I think I’ve had it work what I would consider very good about five times all of which was an absolute blast. The rest of the time it’s enjoyable to some extent but soon as I match high level players it’s game over their connection ( or whatever way you would call it ) trumps mine every time I can hit all my shots get the first shot off etc etc etc and still lose the gun battle my movement especially is clumsy and clunky and a simple clamber becomes a bunny hopping mess which just gives someone a free kill. At lower levels you have the time and ability to miss a few shots or not have perfect movement, but the game is so competitive that higher levels you just can’t compete. It is the most frustrating thing . The thing that really concerns me is that it affects many different aspects of halo 5 and not just aiming. Halo 6 will build apon halo 5 so some of these deep rooted problems will probably transfer over I just hope the knowledge learnt from halo 5 and maybe the mcc fixes can go into halo 6 giving us a game that actually functions properly.

Doesn’t sound like it . Maybe in future instead of putting immature comments that won’t further positive discussion try actually responding to the topic in hand . Your experience of heavy aim , opinion and conjecture. For some players this has added a really negative aspect to a enjoyable game and awesome franchise. If you have nothing to contribute don’t comment at all .
Let’s make sure that 343 knows that these issues are still present and causing problems to a lot of players. Everyone affected feel free to post here to tell about it!

Okay… Prove to me it isn’t lag? The fact of the matter is we don’t know what exactly is causing it.
Is it lag or heavy aim? You’d have to analyze each person’s setup to even begin to figure it out. Why do think 343 asks what router, ISP, modem… etc., when there troubleshooting problems? Is the problem with the end users component’s, is it input lag caused by a monitor/tv. ISP (crappy internet), or is just the fact population is low and the servers are trying to balance lag between countries.
Is it a problem with the core code, netcode in H5 or does the server cache need to be flushed or the xbox persistent cache, we can go on and on with speculation which solves nothing. Bottom line 343 has to figure it out,
Here’s one of the definitions of lag:
Lag: This is the result of a general slowdown in graphics, and is a common occurrence for any gamer. Basically, your system just can’t produce enough Frames Per Second (FPS) to make everything feel nice and smooth. Anytime graphics lag happens, you’ll typically get a reduction in the responsiveness of your controls. Your actions take a fraction longer to be reflected in the graphics on-screen because it takes your system a bit more time to create each new frame of graphics and send it to your monitor.
Doesn’t this kind of sound familiar to what players are experiencing.
As far as your rude comments go regarding me. You’re not a Moderator and yes I have the right to post my opinion whether you like or not. As far as immature, you better look in the mirror. You don’t see me attacking anyone in these forums.

Dude the heavy aim is so bad in this game. At first I thought it was only a connection issue and actually upgraded my internet service… only to find out that the problem still exists.
It really sucks especially being a classic player when the aiming used to work completely fine in older titles. These things really should not be a problem in modern gaming its honestly just pathetic. I enjoy H5 but the decisions 343 has implemented make it a frustrating experience.

Well this is kinda the first time aiming down sights aka smart link has ever been in a halo game. Doesn’t mean it was expertly added to the game. Even now 343 is still working on it and adjusting it. Nothing is always perfect on it’s first try. It’s still best if you don’t rely on it. If a target is farther than your range, try using smart link to see if anything changes. Halo was first built on just hip fire. This is new to halo.

what you need is for everyone to be playing on a keyboard and nobody to have aim assist… thats how aiming is supposed to work

True, hip fire is the way to go. But the heavy aim is a seperate issue tied to the server connection. When the heavy aim isn’t present aiming is smooth and responsive in Halo 5 with both ads and hip fire.

by ads you mean computer opponents like grunts, elites and such?
I played the PC version of Halo 5 and the aiming feels a lot more responsive. I can play on 5-3 sensitivity and still hit 50 - 60% accuracy where as on Xbox i have to play on 3-3 and still struggle.
The weird thing is that lag on PC does not effect the way the actual aiming feels like it does on Xbox.
