So, since flighting seems to be experiencing technical difficulties, I decided to post a thread to pass the time.
Looking at the overview yesterday, the new heatwave weapon seems awfully similar to the promethean scattershot.
.it has ricocheting shots
.it has a predictable spread pattern (shots don’t come out at random angles like a traditional shotgun)
.it is, of course, a forerunner weapon
Does anyone feel that this is 343’s way of bringing the scattershot back, without needing to also bring back the promethazine?
I don’t have a problem with is if it is, I actually like the scattershot as a weapon, and am excited to get my hands on it when the flight drops. I just thought that this would be something interesting to discuss.
The main difference is that the heatwave doesn’t really work like a shotgun. Yes it will be more effective the closer you are, but it has a massive range, and in vertical mode the shots stay grouped together really well.
It’s actually a UNSC weapon from what design language we have been able to decipher. If you look at the inside of the gun, it has the same triangle pattern as the Battle Rifle.
It also doesn’t feature homing projectiles after the initial bounce as we have seen with the scattershot from H:5, and instead of a variable zoom, it allows you to change your spread pattern from horizontal to verticle. Shots also over-penetrate targets.
We don’t know what other functions it will serve, we have to keep in mind that the weapons in H:I have new damage models in the form of elements ( similar to Destiny)
It could very well be a Forerunner weapon or it could be a UNSC weapon that falls into the weapon element of heat. And new elements probably serve niche roles in the sandbox.
But hey, we will find out soon enough.

Question is how much damage does the vertical shot do point blank.
It looks like it, more or less but with more range, I’m very interested to see what other ALT fire weapons they came up with, he alluded to several

I haven’t heard aboutthe new damage types, was that in part of the overview? Sounds interesting.
