Just hear me out, the assault rifle in Halo has always been a bland boring weapon to use. Getting kills with it has always required minimal skill you just hold down the trigger and let bullet magnetism do the work. This just makes gameplay fairly boring and tedious. So I suggest the assault rifle be made headshot capable to create more variety in the Halo sandbox. A possible way to integrate a weapon like this would be to include a fast expanding and retracting bloom mechanic along with minimal bullet magnetism. With little bullet magnetism the most effective way to use the weapon would be firing in bursts instead of mindlessly holding the trigger creating a weapon that takes skill to use.
Please discuss whether or not you support this idea.
Precision shots, headshots for example, require a precision weapon. You just paint your target with the AR. Any headshots are coincidental and should not be rewarded.

I wouldn’t say make it headshot capable, but I like this idea, The only thing I would add is make it more powerful.
Why not just different firing modes that you can change with the D- pad? It would still take the same amount of bullets to kill but different ROF. There should be semi- auto, 3 round burst, then full-auto.
If you mean headshot capable with shields down, then yes I have wanted that for all human weapons since the first one to make it more realistic. It would be pretty easy if they’re in your face but at range it would take a decent amount of skill to hit a moving target in the head with an AR. But, if you mean it will kill instantly with a headshot while your target has shields then no.
> Precision shots, headshots for example, require a precision weapon.
But why only precision weapons? I know Halo isn’t like other games but other games have successfully implemented automatic headshot capable weapons. Why shouldn’t Halo?

Burst fire would be a much more viable option than full on spraying if there was little bullet magnetism, you’re gonna land more shots in a shorter amount of time than someone who’s full on spraying.
How about we make the assault rifle have more bullet spread, but more ammo and more damage? It doesn’t need to be ranged, or weak, it needs to be Halo 1’s assault rifle, then make some other weapons around it. A precision weapon that is fully automatic that requires people to burst fire instead of letting the game do it for them.

Again I’d like to say a fast expanding and retracting bloom with minimal bullet magnetism would make burst firing a much more dependable action to take than holding down the trigger.
> How about we bring in the MA5K assault rifle to be a less powerful precision version of the assault rifle
I’ve been a Halo fan for years and the one weapon I wanted to see in a game was the MA5K, they should make it a single fire and bring back the BR57 battle rifle.

> The AR is noob friendly enough as it is.
So promoting burst fire and aiming for the head instead of mindlessly holding the trigger and walking in straight lines for a beatdown makes it more noob friendly? If there’s little bullet magnetism with a massive bloom, aim is going to be emphasized if you wanna come out alive.
Halo 4 doesn’t need the automatics to be head shot capable. What they do need from Halo 4 and on is buffs. For the AR, it needs either more bullets w/increased bullet spread or higher damage with increased spread. Automatics already have their niche; their role. Leave the headshots to scope Magnums, precision weapons and of course, the good old Sniper Rifle.
If the automatics do not that change for Halo 4, they will again be dominated by precision weapons and on competitive level, be removed from high levels of play. Then everyone will continue to cap on utility weapons. Automatics CAN work for competitive play as odd as that sounds, they just need to be buffed without being OP. I am not saying you should be able to snipe with them but obviously unless you are really good or the other player isn’t, the AR should beat you at close to close medium range.
Could nerf the damn bullet magnetism too a bit so as to not rely on less skillful tactics such as spraying and praying. Oh and if you mistake me for some AR Noob, i am not. I know precision weapons are better most of the time. The AR Reach (and in Halo 3) are dreadfully weak. Meant to take your shields down and not much else. All you could do (unless they are weak or one shot via other means) is melee for instant kill.
That’s not even close to what you do with the AR. You actually have to get up close and keep the reticule on them for the majority of the mag. Targets move past you faster in close range. Plus you’re in greater danger; the enemies are in front of you, they shoot back, throw grenades, get to cover, get support from their teammate, or even pull a power weapon on you. You also have to be evasive and use the situation to your advantage. The BR easily beats every weapon in their niche area easily with little skill required.
I wouldn’t make it headshot capable, solely because it would be a luck based result, and we all know Halo doesn’t need anything like that in its future. However, I am for it getting a damage boost; the MA37 is simply too weak, and it really shows in both campaign and multiplayer.
From a campaign gameplay perspective, Marines in Halo 3 were capable of scoring kills with the MA5C. Troopers rarely do the same with the MA37.

The problem I currently have with Halo’s automatic weapons are that they simply boring to use no matter how powerful they are. In Reach you have multiple automatic weapons that pretty much fill the same niche, but I hate how there is no difference between them. They all play the same and are pretty much reskins that just create clutter. Which is why I suggest 343 should at least try something different with Halo’s fully automatic weapons besides just buffing them damage wise.

I do admit the system I suggest is a bit luck based but with a massive bloom and little bullet magnetism burst fire would have a much greater chance at prevailing than firing fully automatic.

Oh there’s differences between the automatics alright, even in Reach. The Needler stands out for it’s classical explosions, fast ROF, lock on, and insane range. The Repeater has to be vented but fires faster than the AR though pulsing the trigger will do you no good due to insane bloom (thus you really have to be close in order to kill). The Spiker (almost forgot about that one) is inferior, weakest automatic (in Reach). The AR you already know about, except you short controlled bursts are sort of viable. Plasma Rifle is just faster firing plasma pistol but it has nostalgia backing it.
If by functioning all the same is what you meant by boring, well that’s because they are automatics but i doubt that’s what you are saying because that’s obvious.
I am not saying don’t think out side the box when it comes to revamping the automatics but headshot capable automatics is not something i can agree with. Don’t take it the wrong way, i just disagree with you and nothing more. It’s an interesting idea though.
