Head to Head Ranked

Can we have a social Head to head and a ranked one? It is getting boring with each game , people are leaving mid game, they have no idea what map they are playing, but mostly they just leave after mid game…

That’s part of the problem with a 1v1 playlist. People quit or they hide.

It’s why Bungie removed them shortly after launch.

They quit, yes, but they are not banned for quitting. I played against the same player two or three times in a row. He quit all his games.
I think making a ranked head to head playlist (keep the social as well) will help with the quitting. As for hiding, well, my only advice is to “Get Good” and figure where people are hiding. The fun part of 1v1s is when you outsmart your opponent. So if hiding for a couple seconds means a certain kill, why not? And if you die from a hiding player you got two choices : you quit the game or you learn how to adapt.

EDIT: If by hiding you mean, actually hiding and not play the game then I understand why they removed it. Still, they are wasting their time.

There are quit bans in MCC. There’s a full thread at the top of the section about them and quits in 1v1 lists also count.

And yes. People would get a kill, then HLG the whole game wasting everyone’s time.

“There are quit bans in MCC. There’s a full thread at the top of the section about them and quits in 1v1 lists also count.”

Really? I don’t believe it, because just a couple of days ago it happened. Same player quit the game every time we matched (and we matched 2-3 games in a row)
Was the ban system implemented in the playlist recently?

Have a look. You’ll see many players complaining about getting banned for “just 1 quit”.

I provided a couple of images with the dates of each game and the moment my opponent quit. If I’m reading this right, it says that “First offence” is a 5 minute ban.
We finished our first game at 7:49 minutes, it was 11:11 PM by then. Our second game ended at 9:21, which was at 11:14 PM. It took us maybe 2 minutes to get into a game.
So, he quit at 11:11, we probably matched 1-2 minutes later. Where was the 5 minute ban? Why was he allowed to match me, only minutes later and not have a ban on him?

Images showing my opponent was not banned after quitting his first game

Now, if “first offence” doesn’t mean first quit, I’ll just stop posting about it and admit my mistake. But if it’s not, I can also provide video footage.

Update: I actually matched him 3 times in a row (in our 3rd game he started killing himself)

more proof

Well we know if you are the last person on a team you can quit without penalty, that was a quote from 343, so in a 1v1 aren’t you the last one on the “team”? So perhaps the new quit penalties don’t effect 1v1…

But as far as 1v1 being a ranked playlist I think there wouldn’t be a healthy enough population for it. It really should stay soical. It is more of a niche game type. I doubt even being ranked it would deter the quitters and griefers.

It’s FFA… not teams. For some reason, head to head is treated like a FFA gametype. And if that’s the case, I can leave Lone Wolves without getting banned, which should not happen.

1v1 wouldn’t be fair enough for ranking. Would be too easy for one player to nab power/sniper weapon spawns and absolutely destroy the other player. Maybe it would work in H4 with default infinity slayer loadouts in a sparse arena… but a CE match on hang ‘em high? Not gonna work.

That’s the beauty of 1v1s. If you can’t adapt to the situation, then you will lose. First how could let your opponent get the power weapons and power ups? Second, if he has them how can you outsmart him and so on. And no, H4 infinity slayer will not work, it’s a waste of time, with people jetpacking left and right, plus the ordnance drop being random will make a lot of people quit. Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo CE (on small maps) and H2A are the best for 1v1s. Halo 4 is good if you take out everything else (ordnance drops, loadouts etc).

1v1 teaches you how to outsmart people, how to stay alive, when to challenge, when to back away. A shame a lot of people just quit the game or don’t know how to play the game.

I enjoy 1v1s as much as the next guy but let’s understand that there’s a reason we stopped playing them in tournaments in 2006. In my opinion, 1s are the worst competitive format in Halo and I’m sure many other serious players believe that as well. We even tried a Head to Head H2 playlist in Insider a couple months back and it was a pretty awful experience. The only time I truly enjoy it is on LAN with some cash on the line, that’s about it.

I enjoyed the head to head in Halo 2, but every now and then you would get someone who would hide when they had a slight lead. I think the kills to win would have to be set relatively low as well. 15 sounds reasonable
