"Head-to-Head," "1v1," Call it what you will.

…but we need a playlist that is 1 person versus 1 other person.
I miss SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO badly the playlist in Halo 2 and don’t make it like Halo 3 where there is a marker above the leader’s head.

Let’s just have maps like Asylum and Uncaged (with a plethora of other small and custom maps) where people aren’t able to hide. It would add a new playlist and some variety. I would absolutely love that and I’m sure other people would too.

Thoughts/questions/concerns?

People will boost.

Starts game, plugs headset in.

‘Hey, wanna boost?’

‘Sure!’

Now we have two people with perfections and high stats/credits/ etc.

People boost just as easily in Team Doubles.

You can’t have two people with perfections, think about that.
Not only do you have to WIN the game, but you also have to have 15 kills without dying. Not possible.

Also not possible to have high stats for both people nor is it possible to have high credits.

Actually nearly your entire argument is invalid in a 1v1 playlist. And people boost in ALL playlists, ESPECIALLY Grifball, but it’s still there. That’s like not selling a certain candy in stores because it’s so good that some people might steal it… except boosting hurts no one.

Doesn’t excuse the fact that this would become as easy to boost in as the Halo 3 Head to Head playlist, boosting is against the rules, this playlist would just make it a heck of a lot easier.

it should be mlg maps/ settings if they did add this playlist again (which they won’t) otherwise it’s gonna be a nooby bloom/campfest/sprint

The playlist was a failure in Halo 2, and it did just as poorly in 3. Waste of time and resources.

> The playlist was a failure in Halo 2, and it did just as poorly in 3. Waste of time and resources.

I don’t ever remember the playlist being a failure in Halo 2. Maybe when it was ranked.

Secondly, Halo 3’s 1v1 playlist had really weird options… like the arrow above the winners head… all the maps that had fusion coils EVERYWHERE… what was that? It wasn’t the players who broke that playlist…

I don’t see why it would hurt anything.

Lol halo 3 head to head, crouching with mauler anyone?

It would be a waste of time, all 1v1s are is who has better power weapon skills.

I wouldn’t mind trying a 1v1 playlist since I didn’t see the one in Halo 3. Perhaps it could be tested as a Beta playlist to see if players are open to it, maybe with credit incentives too.

The main issues I would have with 1v1s would involve power weapons and camping. Clearly a 1v1 playlist needs to be DMR starts. Rockets surely shouldn’t be in 1v1, even with ammo reduction. Sniper and GL would probably be the only weapons.

Gamebattles does 1v1s on ladder and some of the pros do them. I heard Ninja is an absolute beast at 1v1s.

If not, 1v1s will probably be customs only if it doesn’t get a good following. Plus, custom 1v1s can take turns hosting, another issue with a 1v1 playlist.

Bungie tried quite hard for a number of years to make 1v1 work across 2 games, but in the end they discovered that there is just no way to make people generally play nicely in matchmaking head to head.

So they gave up.

Anyone who remembers Halo 2/3 Head to Head and CoD 4 Cagematch knows this wouldn’t work. Nothing but campers and boosters.

1v1 playlists weren’t viable in Halo 2/3 because of how easy it was to manipulate connections and the devestating affect that had on the off-host player.

While there’s less of a host advantage in Reach the actual sandbox skill level is weighed down by bloom and other mechanics that don’t make for a good 1v1 game.

Reach needs less playlists, NOT more.

1v1s only really worked in CE, and only on some of the less power weapon centric maps. This was because CE was in its “team game” infancy, so to say. The design philosophy behind the multiplayer in CE seemed to be “you have cool guns and powerups that spawn on the map. Go fight it out in arenas”. Inspiration for CE’s multiplayer came from classic deathmatch games–like Quake 3–that were designed for 1v1s. However, with each new sequel Bungie concentrated more and more on “balance” and transforming the game into a proper team game. As an obvious side effect the individual skill aspect, or more, the ability to play the game without a team, began to diminish. Halo 2 and 3 tried to hold onto the old tradition of 1v1s with their head-to-head playlists, but in the end failed because the games were designed for teams. Still, some people enjoyed the later games in a 1v1 fashion, but don’t expect any more 1v1 playlists in future Halo titles. Especially since we no longer live in a day and age where FPSs are all about 1v1s. This generation sees this style of play as “stroking your e-peen”.

Unless you’re going to also offer a conceptual and/or practical framework for solving the issues related with camping and slowness of the pace of games that plagued and ultimately caused the death of the playlist in previous games, you shouldn’t even bother posting about this.

Because people will laugh at you. Like me. Ha! Haha! HAHAHA!

If, and this is a big if, they can make playlists in Halo 4 that do not weigh against your competitive K/D, then yes.

I’m totally all for it.

No parties. No consecutive matches. Problem Solved.

And how exactly can people not hide on those maps? You go anywhere that isnt readily visible and crouch. Thats hiding. 1v1 always means someone gets the first kill and avoids combat for the rest of the game.
