I was once saying I wanted HDR for this game because it would add a lot to the explosions, but it seems like HDR with this game is broken. Almost everything looks a bit dull now and explosions and such are really not that impactful. I have many HDR games and none of them dull the image as much as this game does. I adjusted the setting to exactly what the game suggests and it still is not good, I also did adjustment to the extremes and it has not changed. Game now looks dull/less vibrant and the HDR effect it does have is not very good. Creative/343i need to call Playground Games and get some help in implementing HDR because this is the worst implemented HDR game I have played…as much as I wanted HDR for this game, I now want it gone.
At least add an option to have HDR on or off. Right now the only way to turn it off is to change the Xbox One Settings and tell it that my TV does not do HDR, but I watch HDR movies and other games, so this is not ideal for me. So give us an option, but most importantly, please fix the HDR implementation.
The Xbox One S decodes HDR really really weird.
I had to fiddle quite a bit to get my Samsung KS8000 TV to understand it appropriately. The way the Xbox exchanges data is unique compared to every other system, this causes you to have to adjust the settings for the specific HDMI port the Xbox One S uses in order to get it to display like you might expect.
If you don’t do this the colors look pretty washed out.
Kid you not, took me about two hours. Good news is that this is the first game I’ve really taken the time to get it to work for the One S because its all bright and colorful. Now that I have it set up, it looks great.
Also, there is an HDR brightness setting in Halo Wars 2 setting. You may also need to adjust that.
Hey you are absolutely right, was looking for someone else to have this problem. The HDR is horrible looking. My Xbox menu and all other games are fine, Halo Wars 2 is so dull looking now that I wish it was back to way before this, I don’t even want to play it now. Kinda sucks. Needs to be fixed. Soon as I start the game I see the colors change when it’s showing opening credits. Very disappointed
