It’s going to be a waste of time without them. If it’s supposed to be the most competitive playlist, how does starting with a Pistol/AR and especially a motion sensor make sense? Because able to use an automatic spraying weapon and staring at your radar to find people around corners isn’t what I call skillful.
343 shouldn’t sacrifice the skillgap of the game for people too scared of playing something a bit different. It’s not like Reach where the vanilla game was almost completely different from the MLG playlist so I don’t see the problem.
I don’t necessarily agree that having radar active decreases the skill gap.
And the pistol is going to basically act as your primary weapon, not the AR, until you are able to reach a better weapon such as a BR, DMR, Carbine, light rifle and so on.

Of course having a radar makes it easier. You don’t need to work with your team nearly as much when you have one, that’s how it’s always been. The pistol I can see staying but the radar HAS to go. I was just watching Roy’s stream where he got someone down to no shields and that person just hid behind a pillar starting at his radar, walking the opposite way he was. If there was no radar that guy would have for sure died like he was supposed to for getting out-shot. He also agrees it needs to go.

It makes you wonder how much pull the 343i pro team actually has because no pro would advocate for Radar.

I sincerely doubt they would tell the people who pay them no.
Although I am the type of player that would probably prefer BR start and No Radar for general play, I actually hope that HCS uses the exact same starting settings that are in Arena.
The reason why is, when players watch an HCS tournament, they will be watching the same game they know and love. That connective shared space of game play is important. I think it would help to inspire more dedication and passion out of low skilled players. It would help to cohesively join the community of competitive players with casual player, with the only separation being that of skill. But from noob to pro, its the same game. When thousands of people are accustom to one set of game settings, why should they be interested in some custom version of the game for pros?
Its something I think MLG got wrong with Halo. Or perhaps, something I think Bungie messed up. But its something I hope that HCS can heal by creating a singular competitive space for everyone.

I agree making it easier for others to get accustom to is a great way to get new players into the series. I’m also on the side that would prefer no radar and a BR start but I can understand the change. It’s one that can increase the income of the game because new players aren’t going to have to learn the game from starting block 0. Instead they are going to start with knowing the basic controls and starting with the AR makes some sense, it is Chiefs go to weapon after all.

I couldn’t agree more. And the truly skilled know this.

That’s their job though, to make the game play as competitively as possible.
I’m on board for ditching motion tracker in competitive modes and tournaments, but what exactly is wrong with the Pistol starts? The Pistol looks to be both harder to use and has a faster killtime than the BR with comparable range. The AR doesn’t really matter to me, a useful backup that doesn’t look likely to supplant Pistol and precision weapon use, mostly window dressing at higher level play.
I didn’t care for Pistol starts in the Beta, but the changes they made(specifically increasing its ranged), appears to have fixed most of those problems.

Jake how long have you been playing halo? I love playing SWAT because of the no radar but an all out cancellation of it is nutter butters. That’s what assists in making halo multiplayer fun. Knowing someone is around the corner either above you or below you or ahead. I believe that halo has always been a individuals’s game. Engagements are usually one vs one and are usually pretty long compared to other games and the use of a motion sensor helps add a little bit of fun to the mix. But in the end it’s your opinion and as a fellow halo player I respect it. Can’t wait for Halo 5 nonetheless

Personally I enjoy the AR. Especially the Halo 3 one. Careful bursts to break down shields and the pistol to finish them off. But I think it’s kind of a weak gun all around and should be ditched one you find a better weapon.
With so many people using the BR and wanting it to be a start, I’m starting to wonder if the BR is any more skillful than the AR. Mind you, I think the AR is quite a skillful weapon, however I think the majority of people have a different opinion on the matter.
Rather have AR and magnum starts then BR starts so it promotes more weapon diversity, when its BR starts, its always a mid to long range engagements whereas AR starts it forces you to try find weapons on the battlefield but that’s just my opinion.

Well they need to do a better job because anyone who takes competition in Halo seriously knows having a motion sensor outside of FFA is ridiculous.

If those weapons laying on the map don’t promote skillful gameplay in the HCS then that’s the problem.
