HCS Grassroots BTB Play Session

The HCS Grassroots play session today was a disaster.

First off, it encouraged rampant dash-boarding, every time I got into a game where the streamers emblems didn’t show up almost everybody in the lobby quit. Halo 5 doesn’t penalize this. When I did match the fire-team of grassroots streamers, which happened twice, the lobby crashed. In fact, I played ZERO games of BTB the entire event because of disconnects and dashboards. Many other players I know also got into lobbies with the streamers, but almost every time the lobby disconnected before the game started.
While I was watching the streams, I noticed that the streamers played some of the same people in multiple games, and also, despite the fact that tons people were searching, it took a long time for them to find games.
The end result is that not many people got into games with the streamers, most lobbies crashed, and the BTB playlist was pretty much chaos.

I think the HCS team should rethink these play sessions. They cause so much frustration and while they get more people searching, most lobbies crash, not to mention that many players will struggle to match the team if they have low mmr. There has to be a better way to give out these skins and support the grassroots creators while also providing an enjoyable experience to players who want the skin.

Stream sniping in order to search at the same time and then dash-boarding if a match doesn’t happen has been a thing since the start of the ice unicorn skin playdates. Dash-boarding doesn’t have the same affect as quitting in progress and people shouldn’t be penalized for it in my opinion.

Disconnects were a huge issue for members of my spartan company who were searching as well. People matched the streamers multiple times only to be disconnected or have the steamers back out for a snack after already partly filling a lobby.

While I agree that last night’s session was particularly frustrating, personally I think the frustration is worth the potential reward.

Low mmr players will struggle to match the grassroots streamers but at least they searched in a To5 instead of a To8 in order to accommodate less skilled players and people searching solo. Higher mmr players also struggle to match during ice unicorn playdates.

I think the grassroots play sessions should continue because they give out way more skins and increase the chances of getting one compared to the randomized giveaways on grassroot partner streams.

I get what you’re saying, but there isn’t much they can do about people dashboarding when they don’t get the match they want. It happened multiple times when I was attempting to match the social streamers and the grassroot streamers but never had DC’s during the MCC stream sessions. Maybe they will do it differently when it comes to Infinite. Unfortunately we just have to wait and see what happens.

We matched them and it was a good game. Does anyone know when the players who matched them get the grassroots skin. The streamers said it automatically goes onto your account but haven’t gotten anything yet.

I thought 343 had to manually send them out. If that’s the case it could take a couple more days due to the long weekend break.

Almost a week later and still no Grassroots Skin for matching the grassroots team. Anyone know who we can contact to see what’s the delay?

You could try snickerdoodle.
