Having to relearn the DMR...

Quick story: I started Halo 4 using the DMR like pretty much everyone else based on the pre-release footage I saw from some pro players. As it turns out, I did really well with it and it worked for me both on BTB and the smaller maps. Universal all around excellent primary weapon.

A month or so passes by and a really skilled friend of mine consistently scores higher than me on all our infinity slayer matches. I realize that he is primarily using the BR and always has highest assists/most kills. Over the next two weeks I start using a BR loadout and playing most of my tight, smaller maps and objective gametypes with this gun. I start racking in alot more points/kills for my team on the smaller maps. Things are going great and my K/D (which had dropped a bit recently) shot back up to around 2.30 from 2.10.

Actual argument:
So I’m playing slayer the other day and I’m dealing with low ammo on my BR so I grab a DMR off of some guy I just killed. Long story short, my aim is decent, but not up to the standards I’m used to. I remember being alot more accurate and deadly with the DMR in my hands. I decide to play a couple of infinity slayer matches using my old DMR loadout and again, my aim betrays me and I don’t do that great.

So my question to all you guys: Do you frequently change primary weapons and if you do, do you notice a difference in your scoring/ability?

Honestly, it feels as if I’m juggling two different play-styles when I use either the DMR or the BR on a map. Maybe it’s just an issue with having to change my mindset when using a certain weapon (i.e play less aggressive with the dmr/more aggresive when I have the BR).

That happens to me as well. I’ve recently finished mastering the Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle commendations, a total of almost 4,000 kills without using the DMR. When I come back to it after not using it for weeks and it seems as if everyone has gotten so much better with it, but now I’m starting to think that I just need to adapt to it’s usage again.

I think its always better to be a master at one thing instead of a jack of all trades.

The DMR’s efficacy lays solely with the user. What I have noticed with the BR though is that it is very easy to clean up kills when team shotting. I wouldnt be surprised if that was the reason why you and your friends KD went higher.

I flirted with the BR for a few days and I noticed that. In addition I also noticed that 1v1 with a DMR is a very difficult thing when you are both of equal skill. BR just wasnt worth it.

Yeah, we came to that conclusion too. If me and my friend (who only uses a DMR) run together as a fire-team we absolutely wreck while I use my BR.

Not only that, but the BR has way more synergy with grenades than the DMR does solely because depending on the grenade, you can pierce shields and kill in one shot.

I think I’ll keep trying to play both depending on the map, but my BR-Grenadier/Explosives loadout works better for my team most of the time, which is what really matters.
