Hiya, I’m having a bit of trouble signing into the forums here with my actual Windows Live ID and Gamertag (posting this on a throwaway).
Whenever I try “Join Now” on the main Forum page I’m taken to a Microsoft page where I’m asked to login to my Windows Live account. I do this and get taken to a Waypoint page where my Gamertag has been identified and I need to enter an email for site communication purposes. I do this and click “Join Now” but get a notice saying that my username is unavailable.
How is this possible when I’m the only person with my Gamertag? I’m pretty sure I havn’t joined the forums here before, but just in case I try to “Sign In” via the main Waypoint forum page. However, this takes me to the same Windows Live login page, and I go through the same process of being told my username is unavailable.
How can my username be unavailable when it’s unique to me? Unless it’s unavailable for some other reason? But if it is already in use, how come I can’t sign in with it? I’ve tried clearing cookies and cache etc via CCleaner, but that hasn’t helped. Neither has logging in on xbox.com first and then trying to sign into the Waypoint forums.
I’m posting this on a throwaway, but obviously I’d like to have my actual account to use here (and no, I didn’t think of FlimsyDragon3, that was Microsoft’s idea…). Sorry if there’s some troubleshooting section or person to email that I’m not aware of, but the Waypoint category in General seemed the best place I could find. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I know if you changed your Gamertag after you signed up here it causes problems.

Well, I’m pretty sure I haven’t signed up here before, and I’m 100% sure I haven’t ever changed my Gamertag, so no problems because of that I think. Thanks for the input.

Yeah I dropped Xbox Support an email, though I’m not sure it’s the kinda thing they’ll be able to help with. Nothing Waypoint related in their support section.
Would messaging bs angel be a good idea? She seems pretty infamous around here…

Have you tried signing into bing or live.com besides xbox.com? That sometimes works for me.
I would also suggest to say what browser you are using and what version. This will help them narrow down the issue for you and hopefully rectify it.

Neither bing nor live.com worked; thanks for the suggestions though.
I’m using Firefox 4.0.1 (though I’ve checked it doesn’t work with Chrome either). I’m not sure that it’s a login issue as Waypoint can recognise my Windows Live account and see my gamertag - it’s just that my gamertag is not being accepted as a username… maybe something weird going on at Waypoint’s end?
Also, I did message bs angel and she responded pretty quick asking for my gamertag, so maybe something could come of that. You get good service around here
