Josh Holmes confirmed that custom control schemes are not supported, but that we could achieve this by buying the new $150 Elite Controller. Personally, I couldn’t quite settle on a pre-determined control scheme for Halo 5 that I really liked in the Beta. Hopefully they give us a lot more options than the ones from the beta, but I’m slightly disappointed in this news.
So to change to halo 4 control scheme from beta i need an elite controller?
The paddles on the back of the controller just map to front buttons ABXY. They are remappable, but it still doesn’t serve as a custom control scheme.

It’s business and -Yoink!- is going after competition which only makes sense. (Evil, Custom Controllers & Scuf)
I don’t expect the main three to drop their price to their current controllers because most of them are created on an AS NEEDED basis and they don’t create in bulk. You know darn well -Yoink!- is going to have these manufacture in bulk in foreign countries for cheap. There is no way, they should cost anywhere near $150, that price comes from what their competitors offer for similar. They want to force them to lower their prices reducing total profit and hoping some leave their Xbox Market.
-Yoink!- could sell this controller for $100 and still make money but there is no reason for them to do so, they’ll still make hand over fist @ the $150 price tag. Those willing to spent $100 will spend the extra $50.

You missed when they said, the CONTROLLER will save up to 2 different button layouts. Which they then described as “every button can be remapped on the controller”
Another think people over looked during LIVE chat, was the mic jack combined with the dashboard options will act as a mix amp. You’ll be able to raise and lower game and sound volumes independently.
Not a big fan of this as it creates unbalance. This is why custom mapping has never been included in Halo games before. But what are you going to do? It’s a pretty cool controller.

And create your own, like a mix between Recon control scheme and Southpaw control scheme. You don’t need $150 to change from Recon to Southpaw. Or from H4 to H5 beta scheme. You just can’t create your own setup without that controller

Yes. It will be pretty epic though. See other post on this topic. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/halo-5-and-the-elite-controller/cb097189-5b00-44eb-a678-778b3dc3d83a/posts?page=1

They can also map to sticks and triggers and bumpers but you probably won’t need / want to. I like to use a paddle to zoom instead of clicking the stick.

No. That control scheme will be in the game. The one that is “Universal Reclaimer” in the MCC. That’s my favorite.
On the subject of the controller, I kinda want one, but … that’s a lot of cash for something that probably isn’t going to make that much of a difference considering how incredibly average I am at Halo.
I kinda see it being akin to buying a pair of Air Jordans just to get better at Basketball. Now sure, the hair-triggers and paddles help, but not for that price. And I’m certain that me with the Elite controller and a pro with a standard one would still end with me defeated.
And someone mentioned sound mixing; that’s a mix between game audio and mic audio. Not music & effects. You can control how loud your game in compared to how loud you want the people your speaking with in the headset. The controller can’t magically separate the game audio & effects unless the developers put that feature in there, and if they did, it would also be controlled in the options or setting menu.
I was planning on buying an elite controller anyways. So meh.
No Halo has ever had a custom control scheme, how have you played them before? Oh with the options they gave you , you say?

The ELITE controllers will come with its OWN dashboard it interface. The head phone jack will have independent VOICE and INGAME sound settings, the same as a MIX AMP. The settings are not saved in the Xbox, all settings and modifications will be saved within the controller itself.
does that mean I cannot use boxer anymore?

Right, you can turn the volume of the game up & down. How can you tell it to differentiate between the music and the effects? If I want to play Halo 5 with no music, I can’t do that even with this controller unless the devs include that feature. Unless I’m missing something.

You will still have the control schemes from past games like bumper jumper and recon and boxer but you will not be able to custom map your button layout without an elite controller
Is there a source that confirms it to be $150 dollars? Dang, I’m going to be spending even more money than I thought now, it is insane.

How does custom mapping creating imbalance? Seriously it doesnt, all it allows is for people to choose how the feel more comfortae for button commands and how their muscle memory works.
OR, you could get a XIM4, which is almost the same amount of money, and wreck with ultra precision.
This new elite controller should of been make like the Duke was.
