I’ve just played halo 5 after not playing it basically since my launch play session.
Lets start out did i like it then?
Campaign: I love how serious it became in halo 4 and bar the cheesy/non exsistant cheif is a traitor thing was an alright story. There wasn’t a time i thought this is for kids with ADHD like i did in H4 but none of it was really gripping bar the grunt and elite couple on the cliff edge…
Mechanics (this must be mentioned seperately):
Movement some aspects charge/boost/ground pound all good. Clamber is terrible in practice it’s too slow (especially for the speed of the sandbox), it reminds me of (halo fans don’t kill me i’m one of yous too) MW2 when you could carry a .50 cal no problem but that knee height fence will take you 5 agonising seconds to climb over.
Sandbox: I understand why it got REQt cough cough but it was such a radical change even to function of the weapons. In campaign I had to double take at the weak-sauce FRG. Some improvements are good like forerunner stuff like most of the changes there but then like no SPNKR rockets from start like is this even halo? You didn’t have in your game one of the longest standing and most iconic weapons in your franchise why? Foolish. Vehicles well they are there some missing some not but overall my opinion on them is meh except for ghosts which leads me into… How quickly you die. Too quickly this isn’t halo this is turning into like crysis did tried to be between cod and halo and failed but the boat halo is on is sailing straight for that region. Don’t get me wrong the free maps/updates is good but in my opinion poorly executed.
Multiplayer: is meh outside of all the issue above breakout is a great gametype kudos 343 and warzone is fun as hell this brings back the joy i got out of Reach’s Invasion, can’t wait for firefight though again that should have been in from the start as well as other gamemodes… But even my MP games played just show you how poorly i’m now engaged with halo, halo 3 over 2k games(minus custom), halo reach over 3k games (with custom), halo 4 (I actually feel bad for it being so low as it was actually pretty fun, actually think it is wrong. But again the base mode forget it’s name was great) about 500 games (just mp) but h5 i’m pretty sure i’m at just over 100 with campaign.
Have the changes done anything?
Sandbox minor as otherwise it would break the game and the campaign, so to be expected, maps and armour updates cool but falls into same barrel of fish i’m afraid, maps are good though. Forge what give to community something to do awesome (still glitches that annoy me but good). Gamemodes cool but these ones should have been in already and then maybe breakout the “your mind has now been blown” gametype and awesome update. Along with forgeable warzone/firefight.
So in all reality no the updates hadn’t changed a thing, except my wissh to prioritise and veto poor design decisions that even diverged away from H4 in the wrong direction. Like REQ’s were not an expanded infinity slayer concept just misconstrued? Is the game bad no, is the game good no. But it should be, I want it to be, everyone reading this wants it to be, but it was just a disappointment. And I really don’t like talking down peoples work but there was so much potential but I’m guessing the good 'ole accountants wanted a quick turnaround on investment so things were rushed, I don’t know a single product that has come out good when that happens, and as a franchise this can be devastating hell my playtime says it all.
Well seeing how you haven’t played of course you wouldn’t notice. Yeah the updates has made stuff better… we have gotten more maps(warzone map darkstar and arena maps torque, tyrant, and some others. Btb got some good community made maps Valhalla and sandtrap remakes essentially) weapons(the H2BR is killer), have had different game types, they added infection, grifball, made tweeks to weapons and how the req system work(emblems no longer take a permanent unlock spot and boost will refund in certain circumstances). Oh and the Hannibal mantis is awesome, Hannibal tank and phaeton helios… all great.
I know the updated gamemodes and maps they are cool, I will not deny that, REQ vehicles good to but i find that the req system which caused major balancing changes fundamentally flawed, and little tweaks to a system they basically went all in for is like pouring sugar onto a spoilt bowl of cereal. And I have played as I have stated quite plainly, would you rather me play 1000 games and update you on my progress on how “it gets better”? It won’t you know i even got the digital deluxe editon (more fool me) and still have the 14 weeks worth of packs still popping… Oh well just voicing some opinions whether popular or not, thought it would be an instresting insight since the gap of properly playing it.
If you don’t like H5 it’s cool. There is plenty of Halo on Xbox.one between MCC, Reach, Halo Wars, and Spartan Assault. H5 takes playing to get used to. Every Halo game brought changes to mechanics and game play. I didn’t like the req system and warzone at first but after playing it awhile and figuring it out I love it. Warzone turbo is the absolute best. Also I find that FFA is as awesome as it was back in the H2/3 lone wolves day. Great white knuckle competitive games.
To me I never even tried memories of reach yet. I’m kinda bored of the game. They keep removing playlists and there’s hardly to play in the first place
The answer to your question is yes. Halo 5 went from a bare bones game to little over average amount of content game. Have the mechanics changed: no, you’d be foolish to think if they would. Have we received tons of new content: yes. It should’ve been there at launch but I’m still happy it’s in now.
Few gameplay tweaks, but a lot of new reqs, forge stuff and maps and some gamemodes (infection, grifball). If you liked it before, you will love it now. If you hated it before, you will probably still not like it. Basically: More content, but no dramatic gameplay changes. And matchmaking preferences if you were prone to lag.
Did the updates make H5 better?
Well, it started as a pair of dice, that everyone hoped would build into monopoly.
So far those dice have evolved into a game of “Sorry” (pun intended).
It’s not what we hoped it would be, and it’s debatable how close it will eventually get to what we wanted… But no matter how you look at it, it’s better than the original dice game.
It’s a much better game than at launch, and the core game was good then. There’s just more of everything now. Yes the REQ system causes unbalanced gameplay in warzone. That’s ok though. Warzone shouldn’t be taken so seriously.
The updates have DEFINITELY made the game better.
Your only lvl 9 once you get used to the mechanics in the game its one of the best out of all the futurastic games currently in the market.
I really like your comment surge they sum up how I feel about it . And yes level 9 is not top of the charts but that is give or take 100 games and I’m not slow at picking up the new mechanics i can use them I just don’t think it flows well, plus to say 100 games in and I’m still not feeling it. Well I guess, I should be here writing this at level 40 with 1000 games under my belt, which would then undermine my “i’m not invested in the game” point but hey ho, and 100 games is some good going as alot of them are warzone which are like 15-30 min matches so i’m look at say conservatively 35 hours gameplay.
