Have the Forerunners been wasted in this new saga?

I feel like after Halo 4 343i dropped the forerunners being the main focus of the “saga”. I was so excited when the Forerunners came into play during Halo 4, Didact was awesome and I thought this would lead into us discovering more about them. When Halo 5 came into play it seems like they completely dropped them from the series in a way. It wasn’t even about the forerunner anymore.

I get that it was meant to give Chief more character and learn more about him but I don’t like that this has all become about Cortana. I almost wish that they would’ve just left the Didact alone and left him as a novel character. I know things change but they way they built him up for so long and what we got from him and the rest of the Forerunners was really lame. I love Halo 4’s story so much but with the direction Halo 5 went its almost like 4’s story was really redundant and didn’t matter. Characters like the Warden Eternal were just turned into side characters and felt pretty forgettable as a whole. Warden was so cool and interesting but went literally nowhere.

What are your guises opinions on how the Forerunners have been handled story wise in Halo 5? And what do you think should be done with them in the future, considering this “Saga” wont be a trilogy from what we’ve been told so far. Should they have been more important and been the main focus instead of Cortana?

I’d really like to hear your thoughts on all this.

I agree. The Prometheans are nice enemies, I mean, they are cool. But they would be cooler just if they were auxiliary troops of the real Forerunners. In my opinion, Halo 5 was a game where I expected to see more of the Halo fiction, the real Forerunners, and why not the Precursors? I wanna see real Forerunners in Halo 6 damn it!

Halo 4 just seems really out of place to me now. It almost felt like a filler game. You know what I mean? 4 didn’t really have much of an impact except for the death of Cortana.

Well, at least that sole point of interest wasn’t totally ruined in the next game.

Oh.

I think if done correctly… Everything can tie in nicely in the next game. 343 just needs to do a better job writing. Halo 5 could have had a great narrative even with the sudden turn in direction but they let too many little moments slip past and dropped the ball on things that could have been profound moments.

It needs to be written in well. You cant just have a semi-extinct species come back so quickly.

They were semi-extinct 100,000 years ago. Who knows what their status is now?

I think it had great plot points but really bad execution and putting everything together. I just hate the dropped plot points that should’ve been in from the get go and more focus on certain characters and of course the Forerunners.

Some could be on a planet similar to Requiem that the Didact was found on, a Shield World I think they called it.

Perhaps. That could be a type of write in. The problem is that they didn’t reseed themselves after that firing of the array, plus the Flood almost wiped them out.

Also an explanation of why they are just getting back in the political game now.

Agreed.

Well they don’t need to do much in the way of reseeding, as long as they had a few thousand and a planet they should be good.

Yes, the whole damn thing was wasted.

Obviously I still have problems with this game’s story.

Forerunner stuff is more involved than ever before. Its not like forerunners were running all over Bungie’s games.

knowing that a significant percentage of Prometheans are composed Ancient Humans and modern day humans from New Phoenix… it kind of detracts from the whole Forerunner vibe for me. There has been no concrete evidence that their civilization is still intact.
The UNSC contends with Forerunner A.I. and their machinery, but Forerunners themselves? Nowhere to be found.

the way onyx was hidden inside a slipstream bubble inside a slipstream bubble there “could” be many promethean warrior servants hidden and only years passed since the fall of the eccumine…

There doesn’t seem to be much reclamation happening. Requiem got reclaimed and got destroyed, the Absolute record got reclaimed and something happened to it (I honestly have no idea), Now I’m pretty sure now that the guardians have been reclaimed by Cortana they will be destroyed by Humanity. The only things that don’t get destroyed are minor Forerunner artifacts.

But hopefully the Forerunners will be more prominent in the next game or games.

Well, Crawlers, Watchers, and Soldiers/Armigers all aren’t.

Otherwise I don’t know what to say, interacting with forerunner tech with no forerunners to be found was kind of the norm for halo 1-3 as well. 343 GS himself is also human in origin. The whole point of humanity being Reclaimers is the forerunners have done meddling with the galaxy and left it to us.
