Didn’t see any threads about this oddly and I haven’t seen any hunters in gameplay videos so have they been confirmed out of the game?
It would seem they are out. They were only in the covenant because the prophets threatened to destroy their colonies. They weren’t really in tune with the whole “Great Journey”. Only many Unngoy and Sangheili have stayed part of the covenant because they hate humanity.
Im sure they will return.
I don’t think they’ve been confirmed out, but I don’t think they’ve been confirmed in either. I dunno, I might be wrong though.
There was a McFarlane toy box labelled H4 Hunter with a placeholder image of a Reach Hunter. That must mean something compared to the Hornet, which is labelled as H3.
I hope they’re in, cause I loved trying to kill them by just meleeing them. XD
Friendly hunters in the future anyone?
Wow, I didn’t even think about the Hunters until I saw this topic. I wouldnt expect them, but I didn’t think you’d be fighting Brutes on Reach.
I hope so.
Hunters are one of my favorite members of the Covenant, and they’re pretty fun to fight.
I hope so. I mean, the Hunters are towers compared to the Prometheans we’ve seen
I could see story reasons for and against. The Hunters were never faithful, and this Covenant doesn’t have the power and splendor the previous one did; if the Hunters decided the deal wasn’t good anymore, the Covenant would not have the means to coerce them. When the Covenant first “tamed” them, it was during a brutal stalemate; the lekgolo live on a rocky, high-gravity world and know it much better than invaders could. An agreement was reached, and for the hunters it was for the benefit of travel; something a high-gravity world didn’t enable them to achieve on their own. Truth be told, none of this stuff shows up on the two wikis, and both cite the Encyclopedia (which I don’t have) without mentioning anything from the Halo 3 Legendary Edition Beastiarum (which I draw my knowledge from). I don’t know how the two tales reconcile.
So I dunno. At some point you have to wonder “couldn’t the lekgolo build their own ships now that they’ve had thousands of years upon and around them?” Maybe they have or will, and maybe they’re okay with disbanding and working solo. But maybe they’re not. Depends on a lot of things we don’t (and likely can’t) know.
I would be very surprised if Hunters don’t appear in Halo 4. They are the heavy hitters of the Covenant and are synonymous with the Covenant as well, they have been in every Halo game and are just as significant as part of the Covenant as an Elite or Grunt.
The storyline of H4 seems to have twisted the outcome of H3 simply in order to present a scenario where the UNSC could fight against the Covenant (or remnants of the Covenant) again. It would be strange to go through all of this so we could fight Elites, Grunts, Jackals but not Hunters.
Personally I am more interested in what would happen if Covenant controlled Engineers encountered Prometheans. Would the Engineers turn against their Covenant masters?

I would imagine so.
I really hope that the Hunters are in Halo 4. I could see it explained as they’re present because the Elites convinced them that they would also be targeted and threatened by humanity, or that they’re only going with the Elites because they respect and trust their judgement.
The only Covenant I would mind not seeing back is the Drones.
No, there is still a possibility of them returning.
I really hope they come back.
What about Brutes, Buggers, and Engineers.
The Brutes could be threatning these species to stay with them making another Covenant and that would be either bad or good
Good: All species are still in the game
bad: Two Covenants nuf said

The Brutes are -Yoinked!- either way. They have the Elites hunting them down and they are fighting amongst themselves. And they don’t have to make another Covenant, the Brutes/Prophets are already the Loyalists. This new “Elite-run” Covenant is just some piss poor imitator in my opinion.
Regardless if they’re in or not, I think there need to be some sort of Forerunner equivalent of the Hunter! a big colossus type creature
Canonically speaking I see no reason why (at least some) Hunters wouldn’t be in the new Elite-led Covenant. After all the Hunters actually respect the Elites, and if anyone was going to convince the Hunters to keep fighting it would be the Elites.

The whole notion of Elite respect was thrown out the window with Glasslands.
