With armor costings being a thing, this would be a really cool way for us to get coatings based specifically on armor we’ve seen throughout the franchise.
Things like “ODST” giving us the proper shades of black and gray, in the proper areas. Or “Zealot” for either the classic Gold/Gold+Tan or the later Crimson colors worn by Elite Zealots.
We’ve seen one that distinctly follows the color pattern worn by Jorge already, so having a great deal more like this alongside the more generic color combination options would be great!

I do think coatings will be canon and may have legit descriptions for some patterns. I would love to see specific design categories and well organized functionality for the coatings. Like maybe assault coatings, stealth coatings, special teams and so on. I think it be neat
Maybe there would be a way to make custom coatings somehow, maybe unlocks in the campaign. I also would like to see if the coatings would match other spartans like lockes armor, or maybe Jorge

Well, i agree with you. And this is some of the coating advantages. Recreating cannon colors, that arent possible with primary/secondary system. I cant wait for some random guy to quote me and write “5€ for porple”.

$5 for blue
also since when has “canon” been a good excuse for game design? lets remove player choice for an objectively worse system because “muh lore”

Hey, i wanted a random guy not someone who obviously hates coating system. Jokes aside. Primary/secondary was always a great system. But i am an optimist so i look for good things in something. You gotta admit that there are atleast some good things about coatings.
A classic coating is all I want. It fuses Halo 2 and Halo 3’s secondary locations being a central stripe on the helmet, full colored shoulders, inside the forearms with a stripe, the magnetic holders on the thighs colored, and above the heel on the foot.

I always liked Bungie’s take on color placement more than 343’s for that exact reason. It was like components of the armor were separately painted certain colors. 343’s seemed more like the armor was dipped in one color, then someone painted random lines and patterns all over it.
