Okay, so we all know by now that Buck’s SPARTAN-IV ODST armor has an engraved arrowed heart with a “V” inside. This obviously refers to Veronica Dare, Buck’s love interest. In ODST, while in the elevator with Virgil and Rookie, Dare and Buck exchange words and they talk about Buck asking her a question and Buck not getting an answer. I believe this was a marriage proposal. Then at the end of the game, while escaping New Mombassa in a the Phantom, Dare tells Buck to ask her again when the war’s over and they kiss. That was in 2552. Halo 5 takes place in 2557, and we all know the war ended in 2553. So I think Buck and Dare are married now, or the very least a couple again. But, the fact that Buck has that engraved in his armor gives me an uneasy feeling. We know they both love each other, but why the engraving? I’m getting the sense that maybe Dare was killed sometime between the war ending and H5 . That’s why he made the engraving to remember her by. Or it could just be that she’s alive, and he made that engraving so he can always “be with her” while he’s about there with Locke. What do you guys think?

I don’t think it will matter in the end. I’m very worried that everyone except Chief and Locke might die. We can’t lose Blue team, not now.
We saw Dare in New Blood. I really don’t think she’s died since then. There really wouldn’t be much reason for it.
Buck can have an engraving in his armor without Dare dying.
That was my twitch-reaction as well, OP.
It’d certainly be interesting from a story perspective, but I’d kinda like to see Dare again.

It could also be that since they are both soldiers they both get assignments that are separate, and it is a memento to her while they are separate.
The ‘question’ Buck was referring to in ODST was answered in the audio-book New Blood. His question was that if he and Veronica would ever have a real future- other then a series of not-talking than talking again and meeting up for a few days, getting the freak on. But like these other users said, it’s most-likely that Veronica Dare is still alive and kickin’ -Yoink- with her ONI garb and behind the scenes craziness.
I do wonder if Dare will make an appearance in the game.

So long as Dare has gotten a facelift, 343 can skype them forever, otherwise a rather not look at it rofl

I highly doubt they are going to kill off 6 of the 8 main protagonists in a single game.
I could easily see one member from each team dying, but not three…
It will be interesting to see how in depth 343 goes with the back story and emotional state of Buck and the other Spartans in Fireteam Osiris

At least he didn’t go carving his helmet visor like Emile did XD
There might not be any grand reasoning behind this really, Dare’s probably just fine - but there’s a good chance that they don’t get to see each other often.

Well I bet that is the case since the last time they met was when they were mourning Rookie’s death.

You have no proof he won’t, so what? I just have a feeling he will die someone has to why not make it a well loved character as long as it is done right.
