Hatred of quitters

There’s nothing wrong with giving temporary bans to people who make an obnoxious habit of quitting any match that isn’t in their favor, but people act like quitting one match just makes you irredeemably evil, regardless of the circumstances.

I mean, I see threads here where people say things like “I don’t care if you were the only person on your team up against a clan of four people, you should always just grin and bear it or get good, noob.”

Where did this demonization of quitters come from? They have always been there as long as games have been online, and they never will go away. If people on your team start to drop out, then, well, you can just quit too and find a better match… unless, you know, we start blanket penalizations of quitters.

Show me one of those posts…I haven’t seen anything to support your claim

I post in a lot of the quit threads. My issue isn’t necessarily the quitting, but the fact that people are either dishonest about their history or somehow feel the rules shouldn’t apply to them. People occasionally have to quit for real life circumstance, but that doesn’t occur often enough for a ban. If it does, then they probably shouldn’t be playing at the times they are. Quitting for in game circumstances is different. If you are the only person left, I understand…but if you have at least one teammate left you are letting that person down and showing a general lack of concern for your fellow man.

If it’s 2vs4, at the very beginning, I cannot think of any reason for either of those two to stay. It’s a guaranteed loss and it’s just going to smash their K/D. And that’s a guaranteed 10 minutes or so of being slaughtered since there won’t be enough of them to end before the timer elapses. Solo-playing custom games is more fun than that.

Anyway, there are a bunch of threads proposing harsher penalties for quitters, including permabans, which is utterly ridiculous.

Here’s one:

The worst one I saw (unfortunately I can’t find it) had a few people seriously arguing that it was somehow morally wrong to quit a warzone game when your team was being farmed.

And I just want to say that Arena penalties are totally understandable, but why is there a penalty for leaving the 24-player join-in-progress Warzone?

> Again if you are the 2nd to last man you stay to help mitigate the damage to your teammate. If he quits, feel free at least IMO.

> It’s a thread about quitting, but they never said you would be wrong to quit if it was one man vs. team. As for permanent bans, I’d say that was just hyperbole, but if the person continues to quit repetitively the bans get longer. The mention of console bans is so that they can’t hop onto a second account.

> You aren’t instantly replace when you quit. Your team is still down a man, possibly for the length of the match. A one or two man disadvantage in warzone can sway things pretty quickly. You negatively effect your teammates when you quit.

I answered the questions in bold to differentiate them from your text.
