Has Reach overtaken Halo4 in population ?

What happened to Major Nelson’s XBOX live Activity report ???

Microsoft used to publish xbox live populations here http://majornelson.com/category/top-live/

But doesn’t seem to have been updated in quite some time.

Reason I ask is that Reach may be close to overtaking Halo4 around now.

(Or don’t MS want to reveal this ?..)

by looking at this, http://halocharts.com/2013/playlists_halo4.php , it’s possible that Halo 4’s population is shrinking and that Halo Reach’s population may be close to Halo 4’s just havent been able to find a link showing Halo Reach’s daily population.

I have been seeing reaches numbers over 25,000 daily.

Same here.

Halo 4’s numbers took a big hit (20 to 40% drop) when GTA 5 shipped and hasn’t seemed to recover:

Oddly enough, ,that hasn’t seemed to happen to Reach. I’d say that Reach is actually beating H4 now for daily peak population. I usually see 20,000 to 25,000 playing Reach (assumign the number of players in the game is accurate) when I play between 4 and 10 pm MST.

Also, 343 made the “Slayer” play list on H4 to require DLC, and lost about 3,000 peak Slayer Players (comparing week before and week after numbers) due to that.

This article shows why.
And I agree with it.

Reach is a better Halo game than H4 while I still think H3 is the best on 360. Its weird to see Reach beat H4 but its understandable. Halo 4 is a COD wannabe. I know people dont like that comparison but its true. It took me a while to see it myself and now I dont even want to play H4.

I’m sure that at times it IS more populous than H4. Reach is a much better MP game than most people gave it credit for.

He used to do that weekly but not anymore. Either because of three reasons. The new console is keeping him busy, where he gets that information is now cut off, or because Microsoft are putting so much money into the Halo franchise that to see it drop below number 5 has made them paranoid that releasing that information will prevent new people who see it from buying a new copy.

Thanks for the link, which pretty much sums up most of the broken things in H4.

I am really surprised that the reviewer never mentioned lag as another key issue. It’s what finally drove me away form H4 and back to Reach. No multiplayer game I play (i.e. COD II, Reach, H3, Sonic, GTA IV etc.) lags as badly as H4 does.

Halo 4’s lag has been horrible, but MW3’s is worse for me. Anyways, that’s besides the point… I hope 343i gets the FUNDING for the next Halo game, more than anything, so they can have the chance to mend the mistake. If Microsoft’s that paranoid, Halo might lose funding…

So if Halo4 hasn’t exceeded 22000 since GTA V was released does that mean Reach now has more players ?

I would have thought the Press would have a field day… Microsoft’s crown jewel title has failed.

Edit: Although I shouldn’t underestimate their marketing department… “We have learnt from our mistakes and Halo5 will be the best Halo ever !!”

Actually I was surprised because Halo Reach didn’t take nearly as big a hit as H4 has when GTA 5 dropped.

Since the 17th of September, H4 has been as low as 15,800 players PEAK for the day:

http://halocharts.com/2013/playlists_halo4.php

Yesterday evening I played Halo Reach and it was 25,000 people playing. At 3 pm MST today, it was 16,000 playing Reach.

So Reach now has more peak players than H4 has now. Very sad.

I always seem to get a game quicker on Reach, even with worldwide connections (I’m in Scotland yet regularly match with Canada US Mexico etc - one time I even got Japan) and with very little lag.
In H4 I get matched with other Europeans and spend half the time looking at the scoreboard while the game rages on around me - fraggin’ lag.

Re population - I have noticed Reach’s population on the up, yet even when it is low the wait for a game isn’t excessive. I play SWAT or Anniversary and even when the screen counter shows just over 100 I’ll be matched up in a couple of minutes.
I H4 I actually pray for JiP coz if I don’t get that I’ll be waiting ages for a game as the player cards materialise like hookers creeping out of alleys as the black-and-white cruises by.

Blah!!

Reach is a better game.
I was hankering for some Halo yesterday and played Reach. I played through most of the campaign and it was great. I want to play H4 but I just dislike too much of it. In Reach I disliked the short and bulky character model and hated AL, but in H4 I hate most of the armor. I hate perks and ordinance drops. I’m also getting older and lean towards solo n coop modes. Spartan Ops was fun at first, but firefight is better.

Reach made some changes, but was still halo. H4 did the campaign well and little else.

Okay… just for fun who thinks Halo4 can exceed 20000 this weekend ?

I say… No.

(I guess 19,832 max to be precise !)

What the ???..

http://majornelson.com/category/top-live/

Halo4 ranks 11, Reach 19 ?

How is this possible when people are reporting consistently higher Reach population ? Something fishy…

Can anyone confirm daily peak Reach population ?

Don’t follow it close enough to say, but I was on Waypoint and there were about 5k in H4 MM. Then I played Reach and there were about 9k online. That was about 2pm CST

Reach’s population counter has been broken for a while. Also, LIVE activity only counts when the game is turned on once by each individual profile for that week. If I put in Halo 4, turn it on, immediately turn it off, and not turn on Reach for that week, then the LIVE activity will increase Halo 4 by one.

to be honest someone may be fudging numbers a bit. your talking about a game (Halo 4) thats been out almost a year now verses a game (Halo Reach)thats been out for 3 years and has the same or better (at times)population then the newer game at this time.
IMO it has to do with the population of the other games between, if it wasn’t for them Halo Reach would tie or at least be 12
