I think the free DLC’s mad the game whole. At the start, the game was great but lacking content, but now it has been a year and is full of content.
If only we had this crap a year ago though.
At least a year ago we had a more consistent 60 fps, not with the drops like now.

I prefer more content with frame rate drops like now than what we got on release day.

I speculate it was either have the game release bare bones last year or release the game last month with all this content.
I think they should have had slightly more maps and made sure all the modes, forge and custom browser were present at launch. I think they still would have gotten people to keep coming back for mini updates with just REQs and maps. The monthly updates were a great idea, but shipping a game with so little MP content was a bad idea, especially after the campaign’s reception was disastrous.
I think this is a bit like that saying “people always prepare to fight the previous war”. 343 clearly looked at Halo 4 and said. “Right, a ton of people bought the game at launch but the population rapidly dropped off. So, we’ll have these big updates and over a year of post game support to keep the people who buy the game this time.”
The problem was that unlike Halo 4 they didn’t have a ton of people buy the game at launch and so they put a lot of effort into maintaining a smaller playerbase. Whether that was because of the campaign reviews, stripping the multiplayer to barebones or the competition I don’t know and can’t say. But I think this was the rationale underpinning why 343 did what they did.
There is still more DLC coming up so maybe not completely whole yet.
Halo 5’s multiplayer has grown from sparse to diverse, especially thanks to Forge and WZFF. I think this is one of the best multiplayer experiences in the series, sadly a year late.
> Has Halo 5 has reached its full potential?
Not until they address the unbalanced matchmaking system, as well as fix the multitude of bugs and server issues.

Releasing the game later would’ve been far better in the long run, first impressions are everything and I think people could wait an extra year if that’s what it takes.

Or actually put more effort in your game or hiring more people to help out because what was missing from the game at launch was more than what it had.
