I’m curious to if there is any difference aside from looking sharper?
Haven’t heard much. In fact I am kinda disappointed in the XBX launch. I have went into several stores hoping to see a XBX set up so you can see what it can do and no where has one set up. Best buy had a tv set up playing some generic video where it said “actual game play footage” of the new Forza game but that was it. The footage looked great but no one was even around to tell me if that the video was running off a XBX or what.
I reserved my xbox one x in August
Bought my LG OLED in September in anticipation of moving to 4K gaming
Announcement of Halo 5’s update is really what increased my hype for the change.
So here’s what I can say now that I’ve been playing in UHD the past few days.
The game is noticeably Smoother (framerate) and clearer. This is not as impactful of a change as going from standard def to HD. However it is noticeable enough to make you wonder about all the processes going on to make this happen. I mean I know the lighting engine is a big part of this in halo 5, but the textures look so detailed and lifelike in UHD. It’s as if you can reach out and touch the bumps on walls. Spartan armor looks quite distinguished all of a sudden. I may actually give a damn how my Spartan looks now.
You end up feeling more immersed in the game. I used to play halo 5 on a really old Samsung DLP that obviously maxed out at 1080p. The colors were all washed out but it was a 63 inch so I had plenty of screen to play. I find playing on a new LG OLED 55 inch to be a 2x better and more immersive experience than I ever did with the DLP. I just want to game ALL THE TIME. My girlfriend hates me. All those graphics really make you enjoy the game that much more. Now I know that’s MOSTLY due to it being an OLED and modern tech, but going 4K was like the icing on the cake. So I’ll give more weight to the screen technology for my new found enjoyment of Halo 5, but I cant deny how the 4K processing makes this experience even better!
I got my Xbox One X two days ago and I am running it on a brand new Sony 65 inch X930e.
Halo 5 is absolutely gorgeous! Words cannot put the description of the new details to it.
The one thing I noticed right off of the bat was when I zoomed in on the guns. MY eye saw details that I had never seen before and I just had to stare for a few seconds at each gun that I had.
I had a real emotional reaction to the upgrades.
I compare it to the same experience back in 2006 when I bought a Xbox 360 and a Sony 1080p TV at the same time. That upgrade from OG Xbox to 360 was huge…this is the same thing.
I fired up Halo Wars 2 and it is breath taking. I fired up Shadow of War…holy hell…HOLY HELL!
Bottom line Xbox One X is the real deal.

I almost bought the LG OLED too, but after the Best Buy salesman showed me the horrible burn in that TV had just after 8 months of being on the wall, I said hell no to that TV option. We factored out the hours it had been on since it had been on the wall, and it came out to the burn in was 2 years 9 months. To me that is not worth $3,000.
Hopefully that doesn’t happen to you!

Burn in is an issue still with oleds. Thankfully as a setting, there are two options to reset the image. One moves the image slightly over and the other does some kind of image reset that takes an hour while the TV had to remain off. I did my research before I plopped two grand on it. I was worried about the burn in risk too. After my research and others’ personal account I went ahead and purchased. Hope I don’t have this issue either!

I have not played Halo 5. However, I have played Wolfenstein. I can tell you that it looks a lot better. I’m hooked up to a 4K Samsung, that helps too. There’s a big difference between HD 1280 x 1080 and 4K 3840 x 2160.
I have it on my old Sony bravia 1080 tv (40w600b if your curious specifics) and even on that I can notice a difference due to the supersampling.
Even details, I’m just now noticing. On the Heaven remake (I am horrible with level names, it’ the one on the elite homeworld ) I never noticed there is water leaking down the walls. And it isn’ that I was running around the map looking at everything. It just started, ran for the SAW, noticed it and between firefights the whole match I kept staring at the wall!
Also forge based maps look smooth and clean now.

Halo 5: Xbox One X’s most impressive 4K upgrade? The way it’s meant to be played

I just watched that and was about to post it!
Yes. It’s A LOT better. Not only is it sharper, but the better textures, better lighting, and better render distance all make the game look better.
Halo to me has always been one of the best looking games on the market at time of release. Halo 5 changed that. It just didn’t look great at launch with it’s poor texture filtering. This update changes that. I honestly think that out of the games that I have that have gotten X enhancements, that Halo 5 is the game that benefits from them most. It’s a night and day difference visually IMO.
I only got to play 4K Halo for about an hour, but daaaaamn is it impressive. If you have a One X and decent 4K tv you need to go load up Mercy (that’s the Haven remake from Halo 4). It’s just gorgeous

Yea a big difference even at 1080. Can’t wait to get a 4k TV to play this on!
