I’m on 10 games so far and I haven’t been able to play with 15 other players. There’s always 2-6 that quit or go AFK. After 2 leave you’re stuck as a hostage, since you can’t leave without a penalty unless 4 other players already quit (dumb, I know). I’m just curious if anyone has managed to play 1 full game where all 16 players make it to the end.
I know it’s socials, which is in a much worse state than comp, but still.
Back before the current (if there is one which I’m pretty sure there is) SBMM was introduced I remember getting games that stayed full lobby games and seemed way more balanced than what it is now
Ive played plenty. Recently too. It’s just luck based it seems. Some of the 8v8 games I play in have a few quitters, but a majority are finished with everyone present.

I read your description and it’s like you’re just reading my MCC autobiography. XD
I still can’t believe we don’t have a legitimate server browser with community-hosted dedicated servers. I can literally jump into a 16-peep match on the original CE PC RIGHT now and even if someone quits, it’s never a big deal because mid-joins are allowed and it’s really just a non-issue compared to the insanely game-breaking/match-ruining disaster it is now. Still hoping they reverse course on only allowing temporary, host-present match on their dedicated servers and actually allow us to host our own dedis so that we’ll actually have an equal alternative that any large swath of the community will actually use to find matches.

I think it’s a bit worse right now because there are a number of people reporting crashes while loading in or as soon as the match starts. This was a problem I never had before, but my Xbox has started shutting down at the start of my first or second H3 match of the day since the latest update.
In my case, it rarely happens. Although this is because I almost always play BTB with a Group of 6-8 people. And even with this, I don`t see leavers on the opposing team.
It happens more frequently if you solo-queue on BTB.

That’s because on legacy H3, the leveling system actually took something away from you for quitting. I don’t know if anyone remembers…
H3 tracked an “Exp” number. When you won a game in any mode, you got +1 Exp. Losing was +0 Exp, and if you quit you got -1 Exp.
I remember when me and my friends played together and someone suggested writing a match, or squad would explode in, “I don’t want to lose an Exp!”
The Exp was essentially a social way to advance your rank. You could technically hit the highest rank through only social victories, it just took a ridiculous amount of wins. This simple concept of actually losing something for quitting was an effective deterrent imo.
The only games where this doesn’t happen is Halo 4. Arguably has the most active player base if we consider Reach-3 are full of AFK, grieffers, and quitters.

Oh wow how did I forget about the penalty system. Yeah removing exp for leaving and going AFK would basically fix most of the problems, since people are AFKing in games to get easy exp.

This is happening to me consistently on Reach multiplayer. Making for unbalanced games.
Sometimes you get into matches where people lag out during the loading screen or people that join in late and are afk for a few seconds. For the most part I have played some BTB matches like that and some with all 16 players.

Interesting, I haven’t had this happen, but I was lucky enough to catch a Series X restock at the beginning of the year.
If this is only impacting the older hardware I hope it gets sorted out soon
I rarely play big team battle cause I get 300-500 ping cause no one in Australia is online. I play with a lot of lag, but when it went to PC and all the player started playing was the first I didn’t teleport when I have amor lock. Or when I would shoot and noting happened until I respawned. At the time there was many people afk. Split screen people often quit. I didn’t mind it as I like to be outnumbered or outmatched as it adds a challenge, and it’s a real good feeling when you win such games. If you don’t want this to happen cause I remember getting booted for no reason then waiting that timer with low ping. I found if you don’t want to have empty battles I would invite the team to a party then play big team battle with that team. So we would play it with full games. If someone left my mate would invite more. Was real good with forge maps that required 10-16 players. The only way I see to fix it is too send 343 a message about the issue. Or invite the team to parties. Also compettitive games don’t get many people leaving. You rarely get afk or people leaving in invasion.

It used to work perfectly fine on my Xbox One. But I got it on Steam last month just after Season 6 launched and it’s been difficult to play with my friend, like incredibly challenging due to the ban hammer coming down after being kicked.
