Has anyone else felt a loss of emotion....

…in the story? this Halo just seems really detached, to me at least. The whole Cortana deal seems very forced.

You’re not alone. I’ve felt the same way ever since I started playing it and when I beat it, I felt like it was just pointless and like you said, it felt forced most of all. Like they had no other ideas or were so focused on MP that they just made campaign look pretty with the over-active bloom effect but forgot what made Halo stories… well Halo. Kind of like they geared it toward the teens going through puberty. I’m all for a good romance story, but follow what BioWare did with ME1 if you want to know how to do a romance segment.

I knew Cortana’s condition months ago, and not because of spoilers. It was an inevitability after the novel First Strike where we saw her at a vulnerable point due to the overabundance of knowledge he stored from Installation 04. That trend just continued on with Halo 3 and the short story Human Weakness and reached its climax in Halo 4. It could not have been more foreshadowed if they put a “Countdown to Demise” timer over Cortana’s head.

Frankly, I think if Chief had to kill Cortana herself, THAT would’ve been more moving than her fading into nothingness.

I didn’t feel any emotion during it. But that’s because I don’t think that was truly the end of Cortana, otherwise I may have sadfaced a bit.

For me, Personally, Halo 4’s campaign gripped me more than any other Halo title,
More than any other game ever in fact, The story flow between Master Chief and Cortana was deep and very powerfully moving. Made me teary eyed.
No game has ever had that effect on me, Ever. Great job 343i.

Hit the nail on the head. It was so forced and a huge jump. We went from battle hardened, trained from the age of 6 super solider to someone who could star in the next teen drama series. The dialog in most of the game seemed so cheesy.
All this emotional and romance stuff was so abrupt and out of place.

What would that look like? Post a picture

Quite the contrary for me.

Chief’s role was basically unchanged. The closest thing he said to caring was saying “I’m not leaving you behind”, a mentality hard-built into many soldiers. No man gets left behind. It was Cortana that was acting weird, but that’s because she’d been alone and going rampant for 4 bloody years. She was dying, and her “human” emotions were getting the better of her.

SPOILERS:

I think the ending was a bit bull though. I mean, Cortana TOUCHING Master Chief? “I’ve always wanted to do that”. What is dat schitt

That aside, I think everything was fine.

I felt this way about Halo Reach. I cared very little about Noble Team and couldn’t give a rat’s -Yoink- that they all died.

I guess it’s how deep you get into a story.
In Reach I felt a paplable shock when Kat was sniped.
