I’m not trying to start a flame war here, but I was just wondering what you think - taking a step back - has 343i and Bonnie Ross done a good job with the Halo legacy?
This is a huge responsibility that they took over. And the Product Planning group (i.e. Robert Panello - “graphics don’t matter”) hasn’t made their job any easier by providing an Xbox Platform that is weaker than it could have been.
If your going to be brutal - then lets be brutally fair.

MCC - Plentiful in terms of content, still riddled with bugs, still not entirely fixed.
Halo 5 - Mediocre campaign, decent weapon balancing, arguably okay ranking system, horrendous RNG reward system, lack of content that should have been in game at launch, no splitscreen, only campaign is available offline

Simply no. I may dislike Halo 5 but the general marketing was mis-leading and the general fact that Halo 5 played like a CoD game is what puts a lot of fans off, graphics are ok but their business strategy’s didn’t help and the art style of the new trilogy feels like a reboot, it’s as good.
They’ve done okay. I’m a tad disappointed with their campaigns. I wish they would’ve actually taken the route that they advertised with Halo 5’s Trailers.
Being Halo starved and “not so much” interested in replaying all the games I already completed I was addicted to Destiny until H5 came out! Went cold turkey until 1 Jan 2016, now I paly both for daily achievements.
What needs to be taken into account is that Bungie had experience as a team before they made CE, 343 had no prior experience as a team when they made 4. I reckon that in a few years 343 will reach the point where they can surpass the standard Bungie left.

Well on any topic there usually is two major opinions and put the two together in the same room (or thread) you’ll get flame if he had an idea on the job 343 has done that would simply mean that majority if not all the comments here would be just for one side
I noticed that the question is (deliberately?) pretty vague. So I feel I should give a differentiated response.
So, are we talking about…
…gameplay? Hell no! Halo 4 already dropped the ball and H5G screwed the pooch.
…lore? Well, sorta. They introduced a lot of crap and myriads of contradictions into the story that are only reconceilable with extensive retconning and apocrypha, but at least half of the media is partly enjoyable (most of the movies, some of the books, a few of the comics and one out of two game campaigns). But at least they’re trying to weave the individual story threads into one big carpet.
…fanservice? Also half-half. They fixed Reach with Classic and No-Bloom Playlists, released Halo CEA and tried to bring all original games to the new console. At the same time, they removed CE’s multiplayer from the Anniversary game, royally screwed up the MCC to the point that it’s still barely playable and almost cut John out of the entire franchise (save for a few cameos in the games and comics).
…quality assurance and transparency? Well, there’s already an entire thread on that.
Overall I’d say they did some good, but mostly bad. And hardly any of the good stuff is related to the games. They should stop developing for the franchise and switch to an overseer function exclusively.

What? Would you provide a Halo game that has better weapon balancing?
It’s the first Halo game where every weapon in the sandbox has a believable role given the right circumstances without feeling like an idiot for using said weapon.

Well i will say this, I know bungie had a different story for halo, or just ran out of ideas. Either way, besides the halo 5 ending (I’m not gonna get into detail cause i don’t want to spoil anyone) I actually like the way 343 has made halo. The only thing i can think of now they could have done better is a variety of enemy spawn layout in war zone (have more than one pattern of enemies spawning, like for example, either a ghost squad or a wraith squad)
In my opinion, no, not at all. I was actually one of the few who loved Halo 4. I thought the campaign was great, and while the multiplayer had some missteps, it was still fun. Then the MCC came out. I gave that game the benefit of the doubt and waited for 343 to fix it, but it took over a year for me to be able to actually play the multiplayer without constant crashes. That is unacceptable. But you know what? Everyone screws up, so I was still looking forward to Halo 5. My god was I disappointed. The worst campaign of the entire series, bare bones selection of multiplayer modes, terrible maps, no split-screen, no PvE mode, etc. It was just one huge disappointment. The fact that we had to wait 4 months for Oddball is insane.
Halo 5 really was the final nail in the coffin containing any faith I had left for that company. With Halo 5, its not like they took risks that ended up being unpopular decisions (like some of the multiplayer choices in Halo 4), they just simply released a sub-par product with a terrible story that lacked a ton of standard content. I mean, why are we still waiting for infection? Why are they only releasing remixes and forge maps? Why did it take so long to release BTB? Why did forge take so long to come out when they were clearly using it to create their maps? It’s all just so lazy.
I think they’ve done pretty well. Halo 4 definitely could’ve been better but I think they hit a homer with 5. I’m not sure why everyone still craps all over MCC, though. Last time I fired it up, it worked just fine.
