Hardy Lebel is against the REQ system.

For those who don’t know, Hardy was the Lead Designer of Halo CE and Designer for Halo 2. He is credited by lots as being the creator of Halo’s MP.

In the interview with The Act Man (Interview With The Man Who Created Halo's Multiplayer - YouTube), From 52:13 - 53:24, Mr. Lebel criticizes 343 and Microsoft for adding Microtransactions into Halo 5. Quote:
“Microtransactions in Halo, They got no place in the game, They’re just solely based on greed, and Microsoft shouldn’t be supporting that and i’m ashamed they are. They shouldn’t be in our franchise and they should take it out”.
Oh boy, that does not look good for 343 there. Hopefully 343 will notice this and eventually get the message that REQ’s have to be taken out in Halo 6.

I just wanted to point this out, leave me alone.

I totally agree with him, but I think 343 has his opinion in one hand and a pile of cash in the other hand. They wouldn’t sell reqs if people didn’t buy them. Unfortunately gamers can’t seem to stop themselves from paying cash for virtual needlers and railguns.

I agree, I hope that Halo 6 goes back to the old customization. However, it would be weird for assassinations to be unlocked through commendations.

Honestly, I LIKE the req packs, but I don’t like having to pay actual money or having to spend insane amounts of REQ points on them. The only justified pack was the Voice pack, b/c they needed to pay the actors. (Not that Nathan Fillion needs money, but)

You bring up a very good point, and what I think he is saying is that REQ’s can continue to exist (Bias in my intro is bias), but don’t make them buyable with money or overpriced REQ points.

Yeah, I think that 150k for 7 nice helmets is a LITTLE overboard. At least make them obtainable from golds.

The only money I’ve spent on reqs is the voices of war pack. I love the req system. I loved the similar system that originated in Mass Effect 3, and I’ll love the similar system that will inevitably be in Halo 6.

(The following is all completely personal opinion. You can disagree if you want, and thats fine. We can even still be friends.)
Unlocking new guns is fun.
Going with an RNG system is implicitly addicting if you enjoy the product the RNG goes with.
It got me a ton of dlc I would have had to pay for in previous Halos (which I did).
It’s kept the player base together, giving me fast search times, even when new maps are involved.

I’m sorry you don’t like it. That’s probably frustrating, and it sucks that a part of Halo makes you feel that way. But I’m happy that the frustrations that I’ve felt in past Halos, due to some of the above mentions, are absent from Halo 5.

Lazy link

It’s obvious how hard 343 and MS are trying to cram micro-transactions down what’s left of the Halo community’s throat. I understand that many game development companies are trying their best to get as much money in any way they can, but I can guarantee there’s ways to to incorporate paid DLC/micro-transactions without it being so overwhelming and in-your-face it comes off as pure greed. I’ve always liked Act Man, I feel like he gets less flack from fanboys on YouTube than he would if he was posting on the forums.

Microtransactions as a concept are not inherently bad. They just have a very high potential to be abused, therefore they are abused a lot.

343i went with microtransactions because it works, and it works well. They’re made more money then they ever would have with map packs and DLC.

And speaking of map packs and DLC, how does he feel about those? Are they not based on greed as well? What about Halo 3 where you couldn’t access playlists you used to own without the map packs, or where ODST was raised in price prior to release so they can shove the map packs in and justify it as a $60 game?

Or the simple fact that map packs alone fragment the community between those who were “loyal” and those who weren’t, and the fact that they have never been implemented well in Halo 3, Halo Reach, or Halo 4?

The cost to create games are increasing and the price is not. If they can’t make money one way, they’ll just make money in other ways. Microtransactions are just the way right now.

Hate microtransactions in games but everyone do it,everyone?EVERYONE!!!

I am mostly fine with it, but I prefer the feeling of earning my arsenal by my own achievements rather than just sitting back and hoping to be lucky
