Hey guys, I’ve recently started using the hardlight shield, I know the basics, such as “don’t just stick it up when you’re no shields as your shields don’t recharge with it deployed”, but does anyone use other tactics with it that seem to work particularly well?

  1. A lot of the time when ppl see a HLS they instinctively throw a grenade. If you’re in the middle of a gunfight you can sometimes trick your opponent into throwing one by activating your shield for a very short period of time. This will often give you that slight advantage you need in an even battle.

  2. If your in a mid-long range gunfight you should stay near cover so that you can use your shield to get to cover if necessary (similar to using the thruster pack).

  3. There is a slight delay between activation and deployment, so if you’re losing a gunfight don’t wait until you’re 1-shot to activate your shield.

  4. As I mentioned earlier ppl tend to throw grenades at HLS users, so it is best to use the Explosives support upgrade with it. Here is a loadout I have had a fair amount of success with:

BR
Magnum
Frags
HLS
AA Efficiency
Explosives

  1. The HLS can deflect some projectiles (Rockets, Beam Rifle, Incineration Cannon etc). It seems to deflect projectiles at roughly a 30 degree angle. If you practice this enough you can sometimes turn others’ weapons against them.

The best I’ve ever seen it used was by a guest. He’d go in guns blazing, get the aggro, put his shield up, then his friend would come in while everyone’s distracted. When you’re coordinating with a teammate, the HLS becomes a beast.
