Level 17 Team slayer is harder than level 50 h3 team slayer. I went 22-8 last game and deranked to a 16. Brutal! Keep up the good work 343!
It definitely takes a lot to rank up in this system. I don’t mind though, it’s also pretty difficult to de level.

its really not any harder, its just a combination of a very low population online, and ranks getting reset (low population meaning that the good players have likely stuck around while casuals abandoned ship long ago leaving a huge skill gap, the reset puts everyone in the same bracket). Nothing will change however as it is unlikely for MCC’s population to go up again. I bet it might be the lowest to date of any halo. Also K/D never has and should not affect your skill level. If there was larger population, the good players wouldn’t be competing so much at low levels.

Kills has affected the ranking system of Reach and Halo 2. It’s not just the population, it has to do with being matched with teams of 3 when you are searching alone. I play teams of tryhards while I get xxravensfan69xx who has a .3 KD ratio. Not to mention people lag out of games like mad or just flat out leave.

Reach, ranking was gabage didnt like how it reset, so I didnt play ranked much but from what I understand it was just about wins. Halo 2 was identical to 3, only wins mattered, (with the exception of 3, which required a certain amount of XP with a highest skill to achieve a rank). IF its true that when searching solo, you encounter a group of 3 in a party, that’s just poor design on 343’s side and their fault. You are supposed to match up with all randoms if searching solo, and if in a party (say 3) it is supposed to find a party of 3 to match yours. If anything, what you just said is a testament to 343’s incompetence with creating a ranking system, rather than an improvement.
either way the low population means there is a disproportionate number of good players to bad players, meaning you are more likely to run against decent people in ranked, as the casuals have moved on never to return.

In halo 2 you got more credit based off of your placing even in team games. If you did the worst in the game but your team won then you got 4th place. In reach the first 6 seasons were all based on individual performance. After 6 seasons it was based off of wins but individual performance still counted. H3 was the only game where it didn’t matter other than in FFA.

Kills did not affect H2 at all, it was purely based on wins. Reach was originally based on personal performance like KD, but after the first season or so it was also changed to purely wins.
I’m actually annoyed with my rank, but not for the reason you’d think…
I’m level 18 in the H2A playlist, after playing a fair bit since the ranks went live. But I definitely do not deserve that rank… I regularly get crushed by players ranked 5 through 15 (although once in a while beat them), and end games with a 5/15 K/D. But I guess I keep getting paired with good teammates and help them just enough to win the game.
I literally never played H2 or H2A before 2 weeks ago, so I’m just learning the game. I feel badly going so negative, and my teammates usually aren’t thrilled either. I wish I could just de-rank to level 10 or so, and give me some more time to learn and improve.
Meanwhile, I can’t wait for the CE playlist to be ranked. I’m actually decent at CE.

Wrong, do your research on halo 2. Reach was personal performance until season 7. I remember exactly when wins became important.

What? If you’re so concerned with this you can do your research and read the official Halo 2 ranking system.
> First off, the only thing that matters for experience and level calculations is your current experience points and your team’s final standing, your place at the end of the game. It doesn’t matter how you got there, and it doesn’t matter whether you were the one that planted the flag or that got the most kills on your team. All that matters is the end result that your team achieved.
You don’t get placed on your team. If everyone on your team is the same level, everyone on your team gets the same gain/loss of XP from the game. As Qui said, it’s based purely off of if your team won/lost and the ranks of everyone in the game.

Sly: 1st Place
JoeBoy: 2nd Place
SueMe: 3rd Place
Ralf: 4th Place
Halo 2 will calculate experience gained or lost first for Sly vs. JoeBoy, then for Sly vs. SueMe, then for Ralf, then total it all up and divide by 3. The result is Sly’s change in experience points, in this case positive. In SueMe’s case the game will calculate vs. the other three and divide by three. This means that SueMe gains points for beating Ralf but loses points for getting beat by Sly and JoeBoy. SueMe’s final experience point change will be negative, but not as bad as Ralf’s will be, as she earned something for beating him.
This same concept applies to teams. Experience change for a member of a team is calculated vs. every other member of every other team, then averaged.

You are absolutely correct, Halo 2 ranking system did depend on how well you did compared to everyone else in the game according to Cobra’s link. That actually makes a lot more sense to me now, because I very rarely de level because in most losses I actually have one of the highest scores, almost always in the top 4 in the game. I’m starting to see the light.
This would also explain why many people claim the ranks are broken when they win a game and rank down. They may have performed bad and actually lost experience, or not gained very much from winning multiple games by getting carried.
Back to the original topic: its only hard because of the population issue. The game can barely support ranked multiplayer let alone properly match people up. The player pool is just to small. Its under 30k players average.

Yes, but when you’re playing on teams, everyone on the winning team comes in first place and everyone on the losing team comes in second place. The bolded line you copied applies when there’s more than two teams which we have never seen in ranked because multiteam was unranked.

>
This is false. See above post. There’s a couple of reasons why you win and you derank (even if 343 implemented them correctly). Mainly, games do not always report back instantly, quitting, and ghost ranks.

Nothing will change however as it is unlikely for MCC’s population to go up again. I bet it might be the lowest to date of any halo. Also K/D never has and should not affect your skill level.

In halo 2 days I very clearly remember placing 1st through 8th in team games. With all due respect, I think you may be wrong in this case. I also clearly remember playing Halo 2 back in the day with a party and de leveling and ranking up at different rates as well with people around my rank. Sometimes I’d rank up faster than them, sometimes they’d rank up faster than me. The link you provided kind of clarifies why that used to happen. Maybe I am wrong, but idk it seems right to me.

Bungie.net would say that but the ranking system wouldn’t take that into consideration.

The link says otherwise. It’s quite unclear in this case.

I don’t see how the following quote (the same one I used above) is unclear.
> First off, the only thing that matters for experience and level calculations is your current experience points and your team’s final standing, your place at the end of the game. It doesn’t matter how you got there, and it doesn’t matter whether you were the one that planted the flag or that got the most kills on your team.
