Hard Light Logic

If the Promethean weapons fire hard light, why is there bullets travel times? Why do they fire projectiles and not have hit-scan?

Should they be traveling at the speed of light?

Perhaps hard light is light that has been forcibly modified to a slower solid state, through some forerunner space magic. Maybe in a solid state it would travel slower? It really isn’t a big issue, but it certainly is intriguing.

Well, looks like I’m off to do some science.

And by science, I mean Google.

Wasn’t this thread already made a few weeks ago?

Wasn’t it already established that hard light is clearly different than light (Notice how it is called something different?), so it does NOT follow all the properties of regular light?

I had seen it posted in the Halo Universe forum.
I wanted to bring it to the attention of the Halo 4 forum aswell.

What is the definition of “hard light”?
Only after answering this correctly (according to canon, and not just a guess) can we discuss this.

Definition, as from Halo Nation:

Hard light is a Forerunner technology that allows light to be transformed into a solid state, capable of bearing weight and performing a variety of tasks. This involves an as-yet unexplained interplay between coherent, high-energy light and gas particles, such as air.

So I see that the hard light particles bear weight, so that would obviously slow them down, but by that much? How much do the particles weigh?

Shameless bump?

Am I being totally limited here by thinking Hard light is already being experimented on and is in early development?

My friend actually asked this of me a few weeks ago.

My response: Who cares?

If you find out why, good for you. I personally just don’t care enough to look it up myself

I have to agree with this. The more scientifically advanced a race is, the slower the projectile? (UNSC = hitscan, Covies = projectile, Forerunner = even slower)

But in order for the weapons to be balanced, I can see why the weapons were designed like this. Can you imagine the Suppressor with Hitscan? Still bugs me though.

It is
