Happy Maps? WHY?

Happy Maps. Why do I call this thread “Happy Maps”? It’s because Halo 4 Maps all look and seem to be more like a “Happy” kind of environment. All too bright, always sunny. When are we going to have more dark maps where we could barely see other Spartans? I mean it’s funny too because if you make a map really dark the Spartans will still be very visible. WHY is that? The Spartans glow in the dark. Like GLOW, a lot. So I’m just wondering don’t you guys think that having a darker map would have a change of gameplay. As in being able to spot enemies with your own eyes than relying on seeing them because of their shining and glowing armor. For example the Custom Game mode, “Slender” IT IS SUPER DARK IN THAT MAP! BUT! You are still able to see others… How is that possible? I like the Reach Maps where they seem more War Torn than the Halo 4 maps which seem more happy, bright and childish. I don’t know but I’m just expressing my thoughts. Tell me what you guys think but please don’t attack lol.

Do you even remember H3 maps? those were even more colorful than H4’s … also people complained about the dull and not so brightly colored maps from H Reach…

I think the maps look fine IMO

I’d be more concerned about the aesthetics of a map leading to a lower framerate than how “happy” they look.

Oh yeah, and often times, a map that appears to be more “happy” in appearance tends to make players perform better due to the psychological effect it has.

I’d rather have maps that play well. I don’t really care what they look like.

non diamond plated shiny armor would be nice, and less shiny maps sometimes i can barely see because of the light reflection some maps have. id rather have less polished spartans than sparkling robots

Abandon, adrift, solace, meltdown, wreckage vortex aren’t “happy maps”.

i find halo 3 has more happy maps as they’re more colourful and bright.

halo reach and halo 4 are all dirty and gritty maps, abandoned for example

Map aesthetics should remain just that - aesthetic. They should never have an influence on gameplay, unless it’s for some crazy custom game. That’s part of the reason Haven pisses me off so much, that -Yoink!- glare. The only really dark maps in the franchise I can remember anyway are Rat Race and Backwash.

Reach’s bleak, bland atmosphere put me to sleep. It really did. Outside of Zealot and Reflection none of the basic multiplayer maps were even remotely interesting to look at (Long Night of Solace was the only visually pleasing campaign level). I much prefer something vivid and striking, like Halo 3 and some of Halo 4’s maps.

I just wish the devs would get away from this -Yoink- where seemingly every map is a boring military warehouse or human science outpost, with a bunch of irrelevant ONI canon crap attached to it that they feel obligated to shove down our throats. Spartan ops, especially eps 6-10, have some amazing forerunner atmospheres. I’m thinking specifically of Cauldron, Refuge, Warrens, and Harvester. Why can’t the multiplayer maps look like that, instead of boring -Yoink- like Adrift, Shatter, Daybreak, Skyline, etc?

Most people I see complain the maps look too gloomy.

Now people say they look too bright.

I dun’t know wut to think anymoar.

There is no logic in this place.

I’m pretty lax to change, so going from 3’s mix of gloom and bright to Reach’s all gloom to 4’s all bright has been an interesting experience.

Just wish my spartan didn’t gleam like the freaking sun in low light areas.

I’m color blind which equates to pretty much total blindness on maps that are dark and/or hazy. I personally love that Halo typically (CE - 3 and 4) has bright maps. It means I can see what is going on.

Have you seen Pitfall? It’s so dark and depressing. That’s exactly what I think most of the maps in Halo 4 are. Ragnarok, Haven and Daybreak are bright, but those are the only ones I can think of like that. Everything else is pretty dark.
