Handling your Specialization Message

Thought I’d post for those who have just gotten your message or still waiting for one and are wondering…what do you do with yours once you have it. Well, here is an explanation.

After opening the message, don’t quickly press “A”. The only option is to “Delete” so if you quickly hit the button in the hopes of downloading or something, you’ll inadvertently delete the message. Instead, once you open the message, put the controller down, write the code down on a piece of paper, then go to “Redeem Code” on your XBox Guide Menu and enter the code. Hit Done. A message should then pop up saying what the code does, which should be “Specialization Alpha”. Click “Download Now”. Within a few seconds, it should complete the download. Then, to test, put in Halo 4 and go to the Specialization menu on your Spartan Hub. The 8 specializations should all be in view there. Hope this helps.

Bump

Bump again.

Thanks for the heads up about the “don’t quickly press “A””. Very nice to have that info, too bad that Microsoft will have to resend codes because of this issue.

I’ll be checking and redeeming my code via Xbox.com anyway, so I shouldn’t have to worry about that!

You can redeem it on Xbox.com, but you won’t be able to actually read the message there. I tried. You have to be signed into LIVE on your console to actually read the text, including the code, of the message. When you try to read it on the website, you get a message saying “this message can be read on your Xbox 360” or something to that effect. Just a heads up.

I’m not sure if I remember someone stating that the message can be seen from XBox.com, but can’t be read outside of the Dashboard on one’s console. I didn’t personally try it out so I can’t be certain, but it’s something to keep in mind just in case.

That is beyond asinine. Thank you for the heads up on that one! But at least I can see that I have a message from the LIVE team and then I’ll know it’s the code and can go on my Xbox for it.

So stupid on how MS is dealing with this…

Yeah, it’s like a mouse in a maze

One more bump for the night for those who haven’t gotten their messages yet.

Hey quick question sir. If I were to redeem my code on a friends console, would I have all specializations unlocked on any other console? Such as my main console at home? Or no? Thanks for reading.

I’m actually not sure about that. Judging by other players’ headaches regarding code entering and downloading towards other accounts and consoles, it’s probably best to steer away from that. But again, it’s just a hunch. Perhaps someone who has redeemed a code in such a manner could answer this?

It’s true that it can only be seen on your Xbox.

Thanks Max

Sucks that people actually did this.

Agreed. Hopefully, with the reading of the topic, at least there’s a possibility some will avoid the “Delete” trap.

Hmm… if only all these Xbox dashboard updates didn’t make the console interface so slow and laggy, people wouldn’t feel the need to press ‘A’ again, even though the first had registered, resulting in the deletion.

I miss the OG launch Dashboard.

Indeed. Another possible reason is the assumption that there is an automatic choice to “Redeem Now” or something to that effect. There isn’t anything like that in this case.

Fresh bump in the morning. Hope more of you guys got your codes.

Good guy GHAL416  Thanks for the notice, I’ll be careful about this, after all, its taken days to receive the message.
