Hammer starts in Grifball

It’s the little things. Starting with the hammer out instead of the sword would allow people to actually stop the other team from spawn killing them. It’s a simple chmage and it would drastically increase how fun the gametype is.

Is it really that difficult to press the Y button?

He is referring to when they are spawntrapped, if the spawn trap is well set in place (I havent seen many as I have had no issues breaking out of the few I have been in) you would get killed before having time to switch weapons and then try to defend yourself.

Not difficult, but justa fraction slower yes.

Fully agree.
Also wish the round and player positions would reset when a point is scored, so that you can’t stand in the same spot and spawn camp for the entire match, but I guess that would impact the fast-paced nature of Halo 5 Grifball.
Perhaps they could add a “Grifball Classic” variant where things work the same as Halo 3/Reach, including rounds being reset.

I’m reminded of all those games of Grifball I played in Halo 3, where having hammer starts didn’t prevent my team from being spawn trapped.

I think the grifball community would prefer sword starts. If the ball carrier is close to the goal, you need your sword ready to have the best chance at killing him.

Yes but Halo 3 had the spawns very close to one another, I alone could spawn trap the entire enemy team (Multiple Killionaires for the win)

Here they are spaced a bit further making spawn trapping a bit harder and if spawning with a hammer you have an easier time breaking out of the spawntrap.

There is a possibility that having hammer starts may help decrease being spawn trapped. I just think there are a few variables to consider before that becomes a true statement. Like…

  • will this increase betrayals while trying to fend off attackers?
  • how do spartan abilities affect the players chance of evading being trapped?
  • how well do the attackers have the spawn locked down, can someone weasel their way out and help turn the tide?
  • can running along the edge of the wall behind the spawn help you escape?
  • if the opposing team does not have the ball, is it possible for someone on your team to pick it up and cause a distraction?

These are just a few off the top of my head.

Solution: implement load outs back

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

So long as it just lets us pick which weapon is out when we spawn then I don’t see why not.

I believe they meant for the loadouts to be exclusively used for grifball. That way, everyone is happy and can choose whether they want to spawn with either the sword or the hammer. It’s honestly a better solution than running tests to determine if hammer starts help decrease occurrences of spawn trapping.

Give us back loadouts so we can pick which we want to spawn with.
