I know everyone likes the hammer being powerful, I do too. But it seems slightly busted at the moment (poor physics aside, I’m talking purely damage in this post).
It doesn’t seem to have a range where it takes half an opponent’s shield off, it’s either all or nothing from what I gathered testing on bots. And this range appears to be quite a long way.
I think it needs to be shortened just a bit to make it a little less crazy. It one shots from a long way away and 2 shots from a ridiculous way away. But it does have a decent wind up time to compensate I suppose. What do you guys think?
It’s op, but remember: It’s a close combat weapon and it doesn’t punch as fast as other gravity hammers. You got a AR and a sidekick. You still got a chance to survive.

Being tactic yet aggressive with it is such a good time.

Yeah I found it extremely effective rushing enemies who were around a corner
Thought of a cool way for the Hammer to feel balanced. The sword is a Alt firing weapon, has been for a long time. RT is a lunge that zips you into your enemy and you can melee for a slash attack. So i thought of a great way for the hammer to be like the sword and it would be balanced of course.
RT
would be the swing we have now in the game. A slower movement that trades off with a big area of affect boom that can take out multiple enemies.
Melee
This would be the hammers alt mode, a horizontal swing or a diagonal up swing. No area affect but trade off is that its a faster swing and when you smack a enemy it will send them flying across the map just like the bug in the first flight. Would love this bug to be kept in the game it was so fun and it would make sense if its tied in with the gravity hammer.
The hammers alt mode would not be the one we all know it to be from all other halos when its just a melee attack with the handle of the hammer. This alt mode would bring a balance to the weapon and make it like the sword. See a group of enemies, well time your swing with a RT attack and bring down the hammer for a area affect. Chasing one enemy, melee them with the hammers alt mode and send them flying across the map. This wouldn’t be to OP since both modes will use ammo on the hammer. This would also be fun in the sandbox of halo. Imagine parking a mongoose and then alt mode hammer melee it, sending the mongoose across the map and splattering someone. I used to love doing this in halo 3. What do you think
I dont thinks its that powerful, people need to be next to you to one shot and pretty close to break their shields. That paired with the slow swing speed I think its in a good place.
I like the hammer, the powerful swing feels great. The melee swing tho is exactly the same, I hope they change it like how it was in previous Halo games.
A part from the physics I think the hammer is actually in quite a sweet spot. It’s larger range is balanced through it’s slow swing. You have the amazing potential of a one hit kill on even multiple enemies but hitting to soon will give he opponent the edge to be able to kill you before the second swing.
This hammer feels especially powerful for asset denial by covering choke points and I’m very curious what it will do against vehicles.

Probably damage the -Yoink- out of vehicles but not actually move them since 343 can’t seem to make physics work

Well I’ve had the opportunity to use the skewer on some vehicles and damn those physics are spicy! I’ll need to try the hammer when I get off work today.
It’s very interesting, I don’t think I like it’s current state. You’ve hit it spot on, very high damage and range, really slow wind up. On small maps it’s lethal as you can use the mini map to predict people’s movements and pre-fire it. I’d be interested to see how it’ll work on big maps.
