I’m curious as to other Waypointers’ feelings about how both Halo 4 and Halo 5 open with a monologue from Halsey which proves relevant to the plot of the game (in varying degrees), but it also serves to demonstrate Halsey’s prescience and importance.
So, what are thoughts on Halo 4 and 5’s new take of introducing Halsey in the opening scene?

I can halfway agree with this. I liked the one in Halo 5 personally.
What they should be doing is using them to bring the audience up to speed. Something like a “last time on Halo” sort of thing, but from Halsey’s perspective. Perhaps a journal entry read during a montage which shows major events from novels or comics which took place between 5 and 6.
The Halo 4 one was pretty good. It had some nice visuals and the dialog between Halsey and the ONI guy set the tone for the game well. The Halo 5 one just felt out of place and had nothing to do with the game.

I feel like ONI is behind the whole evil Cortana thing.

Thats true. Halsey hasn’t divulged half the intel she has on the covenant let alone the forerunners. This is as much for self preservation as well as not trusting ONI with the tech/intel. If ONI thought for one second they had thier use of the Dr. she’d be dead. And i wouldn’t even want to imagine ONI with anyother forerunner tech besides slip space.

Leave 'em, hell leave Halsey. The games killed her character for me…wouldn’t mind if they actually just killed her, level one just like Jul, at least then she will be at peace.
I like how Halo 5’s Prologue tied with Halo: Reach. But it’s too bad that what Halsey said wasn’t related to Halo 5 itself (ONI will kill us both). Maybe in Halo 6.

I agree, the opening to Halo 4 set a great tone for the rest of the game.
Halo 5’s started well, the journal and the picture of Miranda send my nerd nostagia levels over 9000! But ultimatley the entire scene had little pay off for the rest of the game. It got me thinking that at some point, Locke would be ordered to kill Halsey, Chief would probably step in and that could add to why they were hunting the Chief. But alas, nothing.
