First off i just want to say wow, after all of these years i cannot believe they announced halo wars 2, I’ve been a halo wars fan(Brigadier rank) ever since it came out i bought the game in the heroic edition with the books and cards and the gold plated wraith. Seeing that a sequel is coming it brings tears to my eyes,i want my voice to be heard from this very moment so that i can possibly help shape the future of the game.

Okay, so its been quite a while since the last halo wars has come out(2009). The games are around 7 years apart so the first thing i want to address is DON’T CHANGE THE GAME COMPLETELY. When it comes to games that are years separated from each other the one main thing i see is too much of a change for instance halo 3 and halo 4. It just doesn’t give that same experience and that’s what im a little paranoid about. Please creative assembly, don’t change what we love. Don’t make it like the other RTS games that are out like SC2, C&C if you are looking for ANY source of inspiration LOOK BACK AT HALO WARS 1.
Here is a short list of things that i want to stay the way they were back in halo wars 1:

  • Static bases around the map that can be captured - The stars obtained when a unit has killed a few enemy units

  • Tech levels

  • supply crates scattered around the map

  • The leaders available to the covenant when they build a temple - Rebel basesAnd here is a bunch of ideas that i wouldn’t mind coming into halo wars 2:

  • New leaders - New units - New ranks/ranking system - New game modes (not too many, 3 would be ideal) - A way to customize what some units look like(re-skin) - A casual and a ranked search queueBut yeah guys i kinda wrote this in a hurry but i want to know what you guys think of this topic, what do you guys want to see in halo wars 2 and what do you hope doesn’t happen?

I up every single comment that you have made man. I started replaying halo wars again after number 2 was announced and found that I love it now I understand more of what I am meant to do (I was a really big noob back then xD). I would love the same feel of the old game but with new units and gamemodes

I’m more or less on board with your wish list. It’s all reasonable.

I disagree on having ranked and casual playlists. I don’t like dividing online multiplayer communities like that. Everyone needs to be in the same boat; A ranked boat, IMO.

Honestly these suggestions are good but in my view are more on the level of expansion pack than sequel.

I understand there is a small core of passionate Halo Wars 1 fans who seem to want a slightly updated by essentially very similar game. I would hope that creative assembly does not limit the potential scope of the game to cater to such.

Yes Halo Wars 2 should be inspired by Halo Wars 1 and should attempt to include many elements of what made it successful (control scheme/established universe).

as for your post

-keeping static locations for bases (as opposed to free building) I disagree very much. I hope we get free building like we saw in the Halo Wars 1 Alpha video.
-I would love to see supply crates in some form as it encouraged early scouting
-Tech Levels are present in many different forms in all RTS games and i would be very surprised if they were not included
-Unit veterancy (stars) are also a common RTS mechanic (though not as widely used) and I would be surprised if CA removed it (considering their extensive use of veterancy in their own games)
-Neutral “rebel bases” at strategic locations on the maps are also a great feature used by many RTS games and I agree they should return.

I am torn on the covenant leaders. they certainly helped differentiate between the humans and covenant factions but it felt very strange to have a super unit infantry that can ignore heavy weapons and devastate armies with (very non-Halo) crazy abilities (looking at you vortex)

If covenant leaders were brought back I would like to see them in a more supporting role rather than a “hero” role (like Warcraft 3).

as for your suggestions:

new leaders. I assume you mean more leaders to choose from meaning more faction variations. This is difficult because the more specialized versions of each faction in the game makes balance very difficult to achieve. personally I would prefer having access to all units and abilities rather than choosing beforehand (sometimes deciding the match right from the selection screen due to faction leader imbalances)

either way if they bring back faction leaders (which they probably will) three is a good number per race.

new units. I certainly hope we get an expanded unit tree if we did not I would be very disappointed.

New game modes. I am not sure what you mean by this. care to expand? why is 3 ideal?

Reskins. I like the idea a lot and (in my opinion) this could replace leaders if we are given access to the entire tech tree of each faction in game.

Casual and Ranked Queue. this would depend on the success of the game and its player population. I would be happy with either.

Personally there is only one thing I want out of Halo Wars. Forge (as in Sergeant John Forge) back. Halo is a universe filled with some hardcore Bada$$es, but Forge stands tall out of all of them. While not on the level of Sergeant Johnson (is anybody?) he was definitely up there. If they can’t bring Forge back, give us another character to fill the void he left by dying (in a most epic, apocalyptic way). Another mere mortal soldier that still kills covies by the bucket load despite not being a spartan. And has the great lines.

It’s an archetype. It’s a standard character type for pretty well any sci-fi/good vs evil story.

I don’t see them bringing Sgt. Forge back, because he died. But another identical character, yes.

What I would like to see in Halowars 2 is hopefully the game modes that they added in Halowars but add a 3 - way battle (3 - 9 players). Have random resource drops, so you can still build a base to keep your self alive. Let the Spartans be able to get new weapons to equip/switch to when you want them too. Some new races could be the
Prometheans and the Flood, some leaders from the Flood could be

    PS: You should allow the Warthog and Wrath skin to be able to use in Halowars 2 if you have them.

I would like to have one of three Spartans, that are alive on the Spirit of Fire to be as one of the leaders. Or maybe human leaders could appear on the battlefield.

I just want halo wars, I don’t want a whole completely different game

I think all the things you put are features I also want. I also really want a scenario editor in the game like stronghold crusader. I love that game just because of its freedom of creation of your own map and scenario aswell as spawning in units. Very simular to a halo wars forge mode sort of thing.

I would love to have a more dynamic base system, so that way instead of going for your basic base that you make every match, you create something new and exciting each game. Also, RTS space battles would be cool, Imagine controlling a UNSC fleet to fight the covenant.

What I would like to see in Halo wars 2:

  • Playable Flood in multiplayer
  • A Master chief hero
  • Shipmaster leader
  • A castle/base defense game mode
  • Different variants of spartans such as versions II, III, and IV.
  • More vehicles
  • Space battles
    -Sergeant Johnson
  • Noble team
  • Dr.Halsey as a character like Anders
  • More than 6 playable leaders for diversity
  • Larger bases with more structure options
  • Forerunner
  • 343 Guilty Spark

Would love a Covenant campaign

I have been waiting so long for this game, and was happy when it was announced. I would like to see this Game be set between 3&4 as there is a lot of cool ideas they could do.

please let there be a flood team this time. I personally would love to be able to play as the flood

Ultimately Halo Wars 2 can really follow through with what Halo 5 has now done.
Factions, leaders, areas, scenarios, can all be done pretty well.
They could even use it as bridge from Point A to Point B in some regard, be it set before, after, or during the events, Point A being Halo 5, Point B being whatever comes next in the main story.
Even just the introduction of Reqs, and the idea of the small but noticeable variations in Vehicles really allows for some greater scale to be taken in Halo Wars to help the leaders be unique, and then move that into the actual continuations Warzone to aid in fleshing that out a lot as well.

Gameplay wise, ultimately Halo Wars 1 did a lot of things ,right, so many things, but the areas that could be worked on have been mentioned already. Units, and expanded trees would be ideal, give Marine squads a better deal… … make Flamethrowers useful again… … ahem.
Vehicles are important and like I said, with the flow in unique Weapons and hopefully Vehicles making an appearance, we can go beyond the slightly cooler Grizzly, or SUPER LASER SHIP! and even let the Elephant be everywhere.
The Leaders are interesting, I enjoy the Covenants idea of having a leader on the field, and having a special Unit, and the idea of UNSC having their Units and a special ability depending on which Captain you got going on. It’d be great to add another faction in, or more leaders with some even more diverse abilities. As the abilities go I’m drawing a blank, but as started, the Flood could definitely form a faction at this point, even if it’s simplistic beyond a doubt, even having a unique playstyle who knows, the Prometheans are well on their way to forging it, and the use of them in Halo Wars could also allows the introduction of more Vehicles to have in later games.

Can they make it so players can’t quit out of a game immediately? Or limit the number of times per day an individual can quit out of a game before freezing their multiplayer account for an hour? Anything to prevent the gamers who don’t get to play their map, play against characters or player ratings they don’t want to face, whatever their reason may be for them to quit a game in the first 5 seconds.

Sometimes half the gaming experience is waiting to play a game in the original halo wars. Not fun.

I think there are many things that are worth suggesting to the developers before this game comes out to ensure every perfect detail is incorperated into this game. But… at the same time I think we should have some faith that maybe they have every detail incorperated into the game perfectly already. its just 4 months until launch and at this stage i imagine it is just final details and touch ups, who knows? i have no idea whether production is on schedule or not. I would suggest opening a seperate “post-release suggestions” topic this way we could get a feel for the game and then give out any plausible ideas for improvements through updates. This is ofcourse if a beta if applicable doesn’t address any relevant information. so… with that said we can move on. I do agree with dont change anything because halo wars 1 in my opinion was such a success, despite what other people say about it, i loved it and i wouldnt want halo wars 2 to stray far away from what made halo wars 1 so great. The following is a list of things i have already suggested on 343 industries.com forums.

-Still allow units to be locked up inside your base to keep them protected durring a raid.
-Be able to set rally points for new units specific for each building IF* u want it more specific than a single rally point for a whole base.
-keep the veterain feature where a single unit can attain a set amount stars for doing good in battle and surviving and each star gained can atleast represent an increase in attack and defense. how many stars that can accumulated for units i think can be a topic for debate. I think i remember 5 stars was the max in halo wars 1(i could be wrong) with the exception of a 3 star spartan being put into a 5 star tank which was my personal secret weapon.( I used to be able to max out the stars on a spartan grizzley and those things would match up againts a scarab in power.

  • still allow air units to fly above certain points on the map like cliffs and other unique super high forrunner platforms keeping them out of range of ground enemies, also scarabs should still be able to climb up realistic hills and cliffs to certain areas other ground units cant go. this was vital in halo wars 1 when scarabs became overrun and they needed refuge to survive.

Ok, I know this most likley wont happen, but I really want a Rebel / Insurectionist leader. Halo wars 1 had them so I dont see why halo wars 2 cant. I have been wanting to see rebels in another halo game since halo wars 1 first came out. Seeing the halo wars 2 trailer gave me hope. If the spirit of fire survived Im sure a small fleet of rebels did too, and seeing that they brought forge back for multiplayer means that multiplayer isnt cannon, so the Rebels could be in it too. I know many people dont request this but thats because its being shadowed by the flood and promethians. And the main reason it is, Is because the rebels have only been in one game breifly. Im sure if you add them as a hero then more love will be found for the faction. PLEASE IF YOU WORK FOR 343 OR CREATIVE ASSEMBLY, PLEASE JUST MENTION THIS TO SOMEONE. I would even be happy If a unsc leader or unit said something like “Easier than killing rebels” I would be happy. Please find a way to add them!
