343 ignores fans because they wanted to take Halo into their own imagining on what a sci-fi shooter should be rather than considering what the series actually needed.
Microsoft ignores the fans because the money supposedly rolls in anyway. Which makes no sense as Halo Infinite is essentially a $700,000 budget beta-build that somehow had an actual development budget of reportedly around $500,000,000.
Halo 4 should’ve been an entirely new IP given how many changes the dev team did to the franchise to make the game “unique”.
They practically made an entirely new game and then still advertised it as being a Halo game.
I don’t know why people are acting like its the end of Halo singleplayer and narrative for all time. There was already another multiplayer project from a different team in the works so its unsurprising that this ongoing project would get the focus as opposed to starting from scratch.
Starting with multiplayer after switching to a new engine just makes more sense that trying to rebuild the full Halo suite all at once in a new environment. Multiplayer is also the real test in terms of creating content pipeline that can deliver the features Halo fans expect in a timely manner. With that in mind if the mismanagement at 343 continues through this transition then expect the wait to be longer.
That being said I do believe that the current story is definitely over. An actual hard reboot is desperately needed to sort the mess that is the Halo narrative from Halo 4 onward.
Either roll it back to the end Halo 3 or start over from the beginning. The constant soft rebooting where they messily try to incorporate all the disjointed narratives without just accepting that some narrative thread didn’t work and cutting it is part of the reason we won’t be getting Halo single player games for a spell.
Just read the article.
All I can say is
If the article is valid, Halo will never be the same again, if it’s ever able to be resurrected.
I think what we have now will never be fixed.
It is totally weird to think 343 would stop Infinite’s further development and put a halt on story DLC, the game is great, it just needs content, I can’t begin to understand why they would ditch all these efforts, Infinite has been recognized by the whole community as the way to go for the franchise, they just need to add more content to it on the MP and SP sides of things just as they promised they would… We want the 10 year plan to succeed, why in hell would they do that to their own game when they have never been so close to make everyone and themselves happy with one of their games…
