Halos population is fine... This is the problem...

Ok so I see a ton of people complaining that CoD sucks the population out of every other game. While this is true games like Halo and Gears of War can still survive with one key thing… Less playlist options. I understand that you have people that only play SWAT or Snipers. That is fine but the playlists should be refined so matches are found quicker and all that fun stuff.

Halo 4 playlists:

Ranked
Team Slayer (Slayer)
Team Rifles (Snipers, SWAT, Maybe BR Starts)
Doubles (Slayer)
FFA (Slayer)

Social
Team Slayer (Slayer, Snipers, SWAT)
BTB (Every possible gametype)
Team Objective (Oddball, KOTH, CTF, Assault, VIP, Territories)
FFA (Every possible FFA Objective game including zombies)
Action Sack (All AS gametypes with grifball and SWAT included)

Maybe a weekly playlist that could specifically be (Snipers, Grifball, Living Dead etc.) It would add more hype for those weeks for die hard fans of the specific gametypes)

With less playlists not only are you going to get matches quicker but it will also help DLC players. You will be more likly to get matched up with people that have the maps if you are restricted to play less playlists. I know this will anger a ton of people but firefight style modes should be killed off. To me it’s Campaign 2.0. A ton of people just play it to get fast cR. Lower the cR payout on modes such as firefight.

I’m just curious to see what others think about this. Do you think it would help if Halo 4 had less playlists or do you think it would just anger a ton of fans that want to play specific gametypes? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

While I really like the way you have the playlists laid out I think their needs to be less. If Halo 4 has a population drop like Reach did this wouldn’t work too well. I know that your idea is very close to what was in Halo 3. We just better hope that 343i plays their advertising cards right.

I’m sure Halo 4 will be great, and I’m counting on that. I’m hoping Halo 4 will have a steadily high population (at least 500,000) for at least 2 years. The playlists above, barring any new and unknown gametypes, would currently satisfy everyone, not including Firefight players. DLC also needs to be integrated better. Also… don’t forget this:

I love the idea of a custom games browser but like I said with your above playlist ideas. It might be tooo much. If they were to add a custom game browser would we really need the likes of Grifball or Infection in matchmaking? If a CG browser is added the playlists need to be really small like 5-8.

Or just forget about Invasion. To me it was a failed gametype. I don’t see anything that would suggest that Invasion should come back. It requires time and effort to build huge maps that are built specifically for invasion. And out of the gates you’re really only going to get 3-4 maps at the very most for it and the population will still be low. I’m all for cutting things such as Invasion and mainly Firefight…

Every game now adays just has to have a survival type mode. Heads up to devs… Zombies isn’t what makes call of duty popular at all.

as long as they take out zombies as a regular playlist, i will be happy.

i can not explain how disgusted i am seeing zombies as the most popular playlist.

zombies IS NOT HALO. as such it shouldn’t get a playlist in a permanent fashion.

^If FF was cut, I wouldn’t be too hurt, but I would really like to see Invasion return with more maps, like 4-5 that can also be used for BTB.

i do realize nothing i said will come true, people just like easy kills and not trying and getting rewarded for it. i know that that isn’t halo and hate to see that other people think it is.

I have no problem with Invasion or even firefight for that matter. I just think that they really aren’t needed. Invasion and BTB steal play pop from each other which isn’t a good thing at all. And even though I enjoy a break from tryharding my K/D in matchmaking (lol j/k) firefight just seems like it isn’t popular enough to bring back and time and effort could be used to build more multiplayer maps. Take the time and team it took to build all the maps for Firefight and use it for multiplayer and Reach could have easily had 14+ launch maps not counting Forgeworld maps. Reach multiplayer suffered so much at launch for the lack of maps. I fear that the same will happen with Halo 4 if we have firefight return. Firefight, Forge, Campaign, Multiplayer, Theater are all just toooo much to make each section of the game good. Slim it down to Multiplayer, Campaign, Forge, Theater and you eliminate a large chunk of game that barely anyone plays. If 343i feels bad for offline players make multiplayer bots an option…

I’m saying this as a player that actually goes in to FF matches plays the full match and actually enjoys it. As much as I enjoy firefight we would benefit much more if it didn’t exist. Same goes for Invasion. I’m not a big fan of Invasion but I could see how some could enjoy it. If it was gone it would make more time, effort and team available to do maps that will fit all the other playlists.

5 player ranked FFA on small maps are fine, 8 player ranked FFA on a map that isn’t small or too big is fine.
Large maps and 10+ player FFA shouldn’t be in ranked, and on small maps, but should be in a none ranked play lists and large maps.

Fire Fight is fine, leave it alone, I enjoy the score attack play list, Arcade is at lest fun, but game types that have nothing but one type of AI are fun.

yeah Rockethog is over powered for that type of gametype.

Grifball will stay, a lot of people love it, if you don’t like it, don’t play it, simple as that.

I will continue asking/suggesting it until I’m blue in the face and 343i put’s it in. Why? Because it’s a GREAT feature to have, and in every Halo PC game I have has it, and it’s a lot funner than match making. Also, it’s a better source of friend finding than match making.

While I like your playlist Ideas combining playlists into one ins not always a good thing. There was a lot of complaints in reach for doing this and I could see the same if this was applied into ranked playlist as well. There would be so many complaints in your version team slayer. They should have the main playlists from halo 3 back. There wouldbe 5 options and several playlist in each.

Well that may seem like a lot Double XP and DLC are special and not available all the time. Everything else needs to be separate so people can play what they want if you combine playlist you will play what ever is popular weather it veto or vote system, so say you like snipers unless you have a majority of people partied up with you, you will get swat.

Halo 3 did have a good number of playlist and while some where not popular with 10,000 players it was nice for people that did like those playlist to have the option. As for ranked and social there need to be two of those kinds of playlist other wise it will will be like the failed arena of reach with just one playlist. I am not saying that it was the main cause for reaches skilled rank failure but when whats better in terms of ranked playlist just one that caters to a select group of players. Or one that has general appeal. That is one thing I liked with halo 3 there was a beginner playlist in social to help you get started, then there was rank to test your skill and hardcore when you felt competitive. On a different topic I do not want arena ranks or rankings back, I hated that they reset and the fact that they did not matter as much as halo 3 or 2 rank. To be honest Halo 2 rank (1-50), with Halo 3 social rank and Halo 3 playlist would be awesome :smiley:

Completely agree.

ODST style FF fans should stop complaining about FF so much. Why only want something that pleases you guys? Why not have 2 playlists, one Survival (ODST style) and one Arcade, with a clearer difference between both? That would please both fans.
To me it seems as if the fans of classic FF don’t like Arcade and simply can’t stand the fact more people play Arcade so they want it gone…

As for Invasion:
It needs more maps, and more variants…and a non-lagging respawn system!
Don’t only include HUGE maps for Invasion. Take H3’s Highground for instance: could make for a very interesting smaller scaled (and therefore faster, and more intense) Invasion.
And don’t only include extraction missions in the last round. Include planting bombs, escorting people, holding that area until evac arrives (which could be a play on King of the Hill), etc. More variety = more fun.

But I do somewhat agree with OP: some playlists could easily be merged to have more people in less playlists. Then again: expect a lot of complains from those 10 people who do play a certain low-populated playlist…

I agree. Although, I hope they change the names, except for Slayer. Team Objectives could be, I don’t know. Something creative.
