Halo's MLG Run Is Over

Oh, snap.

By the way, it isn’t 343i’s fault. It’s Microsoft’s fault.

Please, Microsoft. Make an agreement with both (-Yoink!- Gaming and MLG), so that everyone is happy. Please.

I think we all saw this coming. It just got more semi-official today.

Wow, I really thought Halo 4 MLG would take off. The gametypes are really even and good. The maps are really good, too.

EDIT: Why wouldn’t they want to publicize their own, published title?

(sadwalk)

No surprise… they were always handcuffed in the past anyways with what they could do and how often they could update settings.

Yeah, the new version of CTF/trying to make Infinity Slayer sort of work/glitched KOTH instant respawns kind of set competitive settings up to fail from the get-go, but it’s still sad to see it official. It’s just really bizarre to see the franchise that literally created MLG and put it on the map not feature the series on the circuit. MLG taking up COD to me is like the MLB dropping all the pro franchises and endorsing AAA teams, it’s just weird. Do you think it’s mostly due to the usage restriction fiasco between -Yoink!- and -Yoink!- Gaming, or have the Cowadooty kiddos finally overran Halo even in the competitive circle?

I wouldn’t want to watch H4 in MLG anyway. At least not in its current state.

Idk… I feel 343 wants to go their own direction… do everything they can to distinguish themselves from Bungie… hence no Team Slayer or Rumble Pit (the two pinnacles of Halo matchmaking)… why else would they rewrite file share, take away forge options, have too much misplaced arrogance for a public beta? MLG wants to go with what’s hot I would say also…

Am I the only one that never cared about MLG?

This is the part that really pisses me off. “Fixing” things that never needed to be fixed, breaking an established and loved franchise as a result, while simultaneously being arrogant enough to think they’re above a public beta, something that Halo 3 and Reach both benefited from enormously. Does anyone really think we’d have the DMR and boltshot in their current form if they had a public beta for H4 and listened to the fan’s feedback? Would the BR be a nerfed 5sk and the carbine be a near-useless 8sk? Would the scattershot be dealing random damage and earning the nickname “lotteryshot,” or would BTB loadouts allow the plasma pistol and 3 sticky grenades as spawnable choices?

Ugh, I feel like anytime I think about what happened with H4 I’m going into a bitter rant, but there’s just SO much 343 messed up horribly with this game, and it’s incredibly disheartening to see such a beloved franchise rapidly deteriorate like this. Heck, I thought the Reach fiasco improved nicely with the TU, and MLG v7 was looking great with the Anniversary maps. I guess it was too little, too late, especially since COD took over so strongly, huh? What a shame.

Hardly, but a lot of players loved the challenge and competition of MLG settings in the series, and the championship teams were always impressive and exciting to watch. Personally, I just miss Halo being a respectable arena shooter instead of morphing into this ugly diluted version of other franchises to try to leech into their market share. H4 definitely feels much more weighted towards decidedly non-arena BTB gametypes with the loadout and ordinance mechanics, and the playlist population confirms that.

To me, Infinity Slayer feels like a more-social-than-social slayer that hands out gold stars to mediocre players in the form of ordinance and had no incentive for map control or penalties for death with the instant respawns. Players respawning instantly and getting near-instant revenge kills on the player that just killed them while they’re still weak from the original fight happens far too often on the smaller maps, and the lack of a ranking system ends up with players constantly rushing to get their own ordinance and grind commendations instead of playing smart to want to actually help their team win. Ranked playlists carried a real sense of “don’t ruin this for your team by making a bad play, we need to win to rank up,” even with randoms.

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Where else am I going to watch competitive Halo gameplay for prizemoney?! Where else will I see a good old Halo match being announced by Chris Pucket?! This can’t be happening!

Hearing Puckett broadcast COD would be like John Madden commentating soccer. It’s just… ugh. </3

All of the above, probably.

From a skill level, I never cared for the intensity of play, but it was always entertaining to watch and one always picks up a few tips here and there.

MLG is stupid. I’m glad that it’s gone from Halo. Now I can smile and say it is an offical tryhard tournament because it supports COD.

hits head on desk

MLG has just lost all respect from me, really there is no such thing as a pro CoD player. And CoD is the epitome of a casual lol game (there is no competitive element at all).

They lost a good opportunity, i’ll laugh soooo hard if -Yoink!- Gaming ends gaining more money than MLG from Halo turneys.

343 = Microsoft, don’t see why you’re diverting the blame from the hand to the head, they’re all part of the same body. Do you really think 343 would’ve put effort into salvaging MLG ties, when they haven’t put out a competitive playlist (with the MLG v1 settings) and they even took away the only competitive playlist available Lol actions speak louder than words, and they’ve been really silent as it is
